Job Overview
The Strengthen Mental Health in Early Living/Learning Environments (SMILE) lab, directed by Dr. Randi A. Bates, seeks a limited part-time research assistant to primarily support an in-progress research project. The project focuses on health and relationships between families and early childhood educators.The primary role of the research assistant will be to work with local childcare and early educational centers to recruit participants and organize data collections. The research assistant will also be expected to play an active role in all stages of the lab’s ongoing research projects, including (1) performing observational assessments with adults and children; (2) collecting non-biohazardous biological measurements from adults and children; (3) training and supervising undergraduate and/or graduate students; (4) administrative duties, such as daily record keeping, data management and cleaning, equipment purchases, and maintenance of lab participant database; (5) providing general support to otherresearchers; (6) participating in the dissemination of scholarly products (e.g., manuscripts, presentations); (7) assistance with developing laboratory protocols and data analysis, and (8) make independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training or functional experience. Due to the sensitive nature of working with children, the research assistant must have the ability to pass a background check. The successful candidate will be based at the uptown Procter Hall campus, and collaborate with the UC Arlitt Center for conducting research.
