Description We are offering a contract to permanent employment opportunity for a Cable Technician role in Norfolk, Virginia. This role is essential to our operations, with a focus on fiber optics and fieldwork. As a Cable Technician, you will be involved in a variety of tasks including prepping and splicing fiber optic cables, installing rack mounts, operating fiber equipment, and auditing fiber optic systems.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct fiber optic testing and troubleshooting to ensure optimal network function
• Prep and splice fiber optic cables, both loose tube and ribbon, to maintain system efficiency
• Install rack mounts and fiber optic enclosures according to the specified design
• Terminate Fiber to ensure proper function and connectivity
• Perform aerial line work, following all safety and traffic regulations
• Operate a variety of fiber equipment including fusion splicer, fiber light identifier, light source power meter, and OTDR
• Read and interpret prints and fiber maps to understand network layout
• Perform audits on fiber optic systems to ensure they meet standard requirements
• Create as-builts to document the final version of the design or report
• Operate bucket trucks and other equipment, adhering to all safety regulations Requirements • Proven experience as a Cable Technician or relevant role
• Proficient knowledge of Fiber Optics
• Skilled in troubleshooting and repairing CAT5 and CAT6 cables
• Strong understanding of cabling protocols and procedures
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
• Familiarity with power tools and other equipment commonly used in cable installation
• Capable of lifting heavy equipment and working in tight spaces
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Willingness to work in different weather conditions and at various heights
