Job Description
The Michael F. Price College of Business Graduate Programs – OKC Office manages a number of graduate programs, including the Master of Business Administration, MS in Finance and MS in Entrepreneurship & Innovation programs. The Senior Academic Advisor will be an integral part of a high functioning team that is looking to ensure a high-quality experience for incoming and current students and apply complex academic oversight within the Professional and Online MBA Programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs all duties of an Academic Advisor as appropriate
- Develops a rapport of trust with assigned students
- Responds to communication via phone and email in a timely manner
- Participates in institutional retention and completion initiatives
- Engages in leadership or scholarly activities to further professional advising identity
- Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) by fulfilling training and reporting obligations related to campus saftey protocols
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position
- Assists in new advisor onboarding and training
- Mentor’s new advisors
- Represents unit at recruitment events
- Actively participates in department meetings
- Act as primary student liaison on all academic matters including creating degree plans and monitoring progress for each student based on curriculum/career interests, available time frames and personal situations.
- Oversee student enrollment in MBA courses: advise students on course schedules/selections and transfer credits; file the necessary paperwork to allow students to add/drop subjects; communicate with students on academic processes, schedules, and timelines; and coordinate with the Academic Director, faculty, and other departments within and outside the University of Oklahoma as needed on all student enrollment matters.
- Coordinate with other departments regarding student issues including joint/dual degree programs and certificates; tuition and fees (Financial Aid/Bursar); petitions for exception (e.g., surpassing 16 graduate level hours per semester, dual enrollment, substitute classes, transfer credits, academic probation issues, etc.)
- Coordinate with appropriate Academic and Advising directors and departments for all Fall/Spring/Summer course scheduling and graduation processes.
- Compile and provide Professional MBA, Online MBA and graduate certificate program statistics as requested to support accreditation and survey needs.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Job Requirements
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree, AND:
- Minimum of 36 months of experience as a full-time Academic Advisor in higher education.
Skills:
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ability to navigate and maintain databases
- Skilled in communicating well and building rapport quickly with students, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to work well in a diverse environment.
- Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
- Highly organized and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
- Demonstrate ability to learn, interpret, and articulate complex policies and procedures
- Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of state, university, college, and major policies and procedures
- Willingness to work independently, collaboratively, and under supervision
- Committed to maintaining confidentiality and securing sensitive information

- Master’s degree
- Graduate student advising experience
- Background in database management (Access)
- Experience in SLATE, SalesForce, and LaserFiche
