Job Description

We are looking for a sports person who does it all – the ability to anchor, report, produce, write, shoot, edit and create content for digital platforms. We are looking for someone who sees sports as news and will go beyond just the day’s highlights to tell the stories of the people and issues involved in sports in our community.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Generate and research story ideas, schedule and conduct interviews
  • Conceptualize, write, shoot, edit and produce sports stories
  • Produce, write, edit stories and sportscasts under short deadlines
  • Work cohesively within a team and newsroom environment
  • Create regular content for digital and social platforms
  • Build relationships in the sports community to develop story leads
  • Maintain relationships in ongoing stories to follow-up as appropriate
  • Produce and co-anchor weekly flagship sports show on Sunday nights
  • Ensure sports coverage for regularly scheduled newscast sports segments
  • Follow the guidelines of NBCUniversal Integrity policies

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting, Journalism or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in writing, producing and editing (non-linear) on an electronic news producing system

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Able to work a flexible schedule and shifts, including weekends and evenings
  • Must be willing to work at the station in the Miramar location
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
  • No relocation benefits available
  • Able to work extended and flexible hours during hurricanes, emergency situations and breaking news

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience as a Sports or General Assignment MMJ or Reporter
  • Strong news/sports writing skills
  • Ability to write, edit, produce and gather content under heavy deadline pressure, without compromising accuracy or credibility
  • Critical thinking skills as well as an ability to understand and break down complex issues
  • Experience utilizing social media as a news gathering/reporting tool
  • Ability to interact professionally and build relationships and contacts
  • Ability to make priority decision under deadline
  • Excel both as a team player and as a self-starter who can work independently
  • Excellent ad-lib and live reporting skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of various media platforms, including broadcast, web and mobile
  • Strong computer skills
  • Passion to develop and present story ideas
  • Ability to speak/write Spanish preferred
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere, Photoshop
