Knife River has an immediate opening for a Safety Specialist in the Willamette Valley (Eugene to Salem)!

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Safety Program Implementation

  • Maintain visible field presence to drive safety culture and understand work ‘as done’
  • Facilitate program and support implementation of critical policies and procedures
  • Support & facilitate in-depth incident investigations and corrective actins

Training & education

  • Promote safety awareness through creative communication and training
  • Ensure training records are effectively maintained & up to date
  • Deliver safety training programs including new hire orientation, hazard com, and emergency response

Risk Management

  • Support operations with job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments for high-risk tasks
  • Act as credible advisor on implementing engineering and administrative controls to mitigate risk

Reporting & Documentation

  • Ensure accurate recording of incidents, near misses, inspections, and safety meetings
  • Prepare reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies

Collaboration

  • Partner with operations teams to integrate good safety choices into daily activities
  • Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections or audits

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety programs for heavy building materials or related industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or related field of study
  • Good understanding of OSHA, MSHA & DOT regulations
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team
  • Skilled communicator both written and orally
  • Certified training or have strong training and presentation experience in both large and small settings.
