Mechanical Design Supervisor

We are seeking an experienced mechanical engineering manager to lead our industrial design department.
In this position you will oversee the mechanical engineering team: designing, developing, and producing Industrial Induction manufacturing equipment, systems, and processes.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a small team of mechanical design and industrial manufacturing Engineers.
  • Ability to effectively delegate and monitor multiple projects at a time. 
  • Ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. 
  • Daily mechanical design work in SolidWorks.
  • Review, approve, and release work from the department, ensuring all designs meet operational, safety, and performance standards
  • Specify, design, and produce detailed drawings for: machine bases, guarding, material handling, actuators, pneumatics, sensors, geared actuators, servos, cams, bearings, pumps, heat exchangers, water-containment, etc.        
  • Utilize technical data (e.g., Machinery Handbook, internet, vendor catalogs) to ensure all designs meet all customer requirements.
  • Ensure all design changes and specifications are well documented and accurately archived.
  • Ensure consistent use of commonly accepted drafting and tolerance practices are implemented on technical drawings.
  • Provide Guidance, training and mentorship Jr engineers.
  • Utilize knowledge of production techniques including machining, fabricating, welding, assembly, 3D printing, casting, brazing, and material properties.
  • Collaborate across departments to support continuous improvements in machine design, tooling, manufacturing methods, machining, and materials to increase quality and reduce costs.

Job Requirements:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of experience, including at least 5 years of successful engineering management experience.
  • Possess a strong knowledge concerning material strengths and tolerances for various design elements.
  • Minimum of 8 years using SolidWorks or a similar design software. 
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Strong technical writing and oral communication skills.
  • Robotics experience is a plus.
