Primary Responsibilities
Lead the creative development of architectural concepts and solutions, collaborating closely with the Design Principal and project team to deliver innovative designs; develop design concepts, presentation materials, and narratives that align with client goals, ensuring a compelling and unified project vision; provide senior leadership in all aspects of building design, fostering collaboration and excellence across disciplines; coordinate architectural design with multidisciplinary project teams across all phases, integrating feedback and revisions to ensure seamless execution and excellence; facilitate design work sessions with the Design Principal and Project Manager, fostering alignment across disciplines and incorporating input from stakeholders; conduct research on emerging trends, integrating insights from data analysis, material innovation, and human-centered design to enhance sustainable, impactful solutions; employ parametric design tools (e.g., Grasshopper) and generative processes to analyze and optimize complex geometries; apply advanced fabrication techniques to produce detailed prototypes; direct the creation of immersive presentations utilizing real-time rendering tools (e.g., Enscape, V-ray) to convey design intent with precision; prepare and deliver presentations for clients, internal critiques, and regulatory reviews to achieve project approvals; develop and curate physical and digital exhibitions for project showcases and marketing initiatives in coordination with design leaders; champion the studio’s design culture, fostering creativity, innovation, and collaboration among team members; and mentor junior designers in advanced design methodologies and establish partnerships with academic institutions to support talent development and recruitment.
Required Qualifications

  • A Master’s Degree in Architecture or a closely related field and 8 years’ experience in architecture or a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or a closely related field and 10 years’ experience in architecture.
  • Required experience must include experience in: healthcare, education, civic, or science/research facilities; serving in leadership role for architectural design projects; preparation of architectural contract documents; Autodesk Revit and related tools and processes; Rhino; Grasshopper; rendering tool Enscape, Twinmotion, V-ray or equivalent; Adobe Creative Suite; SketchUp; and AutoCAD.
  • Occasional domestic, out-of-state travel, lasting 3 to 4 days per trip once or twice per year. 
  • NOTE:  All HDR positions in the US may be subject to background checks and/or pre-employment drug testing.

Location of Employment:  201 California Street, Suite 1500, San Francisco, CA  94111.
Pay Range:  $161,928 to $220,714 per year.
