As an editor at Gen, you will play a key role in scaling our editorial content and expanding audience engagement. As part of an editorial team, you will also lead the development of data-driven and optimized articles that resonate with both readers and publishing partners.
You will report to the Director of Content within the Editorial team and collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in product, design, and SEO. As an editor, you will be deeply passionate about editorial operations, writing best practices, and creating data-driven content. With a growth mindset, you’ll be instrumental in expanding our reach by developing content that’s optimized to rank highly in search results and resonate with our publishing partners’ algorithms.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in content creation and digital media, along with a deep understanding of personal finance and the topics that drive audience interest. You will be skilled at analyzing data to identify new content opportunities and eager to experiment with cutting-edge tools like AI to enhance efficiencies. A positive attitude, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for content creation are essential. Ideally, you will be proactive, detail-oriented, and have exceptional editing and fact-checking skills. You should be motivated by ambitious goals and driven to achieve them.
Objectives:
This role involves taking ownership of content quality and production to drive performance of audience growth both on GOBankingRates and on publisher partner sites. This role also involves:
- Editing and optimizing 7-8 pieces of content daily for accuracy and brand consistency.
- Daily editing tasks, including story assigning, title optimization, copy editing and fact checking as needed, foundational editing, and top line editing
- Implementing GEO/SEO best practices and content strategies as needed.
- Work on additional projects and take ownership, including of future content franchises and series
- Submit and get approval on 25 titles per week.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Editors in this role should be ready to adjust their responsibilities to meet team needs.
Competencies:
- At least 3 years of editorial experience in an online publication
- Experience using analytics tools to make editorial decisions
- Knowledge of digital media best practices and industry trends and experience implementing them in content pieces and plans
- BA/BS from a four-year accredited university or college, preferably with a degree in Journalism, and/or a similar field – or similar equivalent experience
- You’re an excellent project manager with great time management and strong organizational and people skills, plus a strong attention to detail.
