Are you next to join ddms’ exceptional Environmental Chemistry Services team?
A Senior Environmental Chemist will primarily provide environmental data validation services with a concentrated focus on the higher levels of validation including Level 4.
Senior Environmental Chemists may also serve as projects managers (PMs) for environmental chemistry projects, overseeing all financial, contractual, and technical aspects of client (non-ddms managed data) and internal projects (ddms managed data). As a PM, the Senior Environmental Chemists may be responsible for the satisfaction of each of their clients and for delivering ddms’ work products to specifications, on time, and within budget. Senior Environmental Chemists may oversee project teams, which may include one or more ddms data analysts, technicians, and/or other Senior Environmental Chemists.

Responsibilities:

Technical Requirements

  • Expertise in all levels of data review and data validation. This entails knowing the various regulations (Regional EPA guidance, NFG (national functional guidelines), and state guidance reference documents (DKQP for instance – Data of Known Quality Protocols). We often do a mix of stage 3 and 4 validation; our work could include PFAS / PFOA, PCB congeners, or dioxins/furan data validation.
  • Have sufficient technical expertise and knowledge to make scientifically defensible decisions with respect to data usability.
  • Ability to update qualifiers in an Electronic Data Deliverable (EDD).
  • Prepare and maintain data validation internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • experience or deep understanding of environmental laboratory analytical methods.
  • Assist with the preparation of Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP), Uniform Federal Policy (UFP) and others as related to analytical and data validation procedures.
  • Proficiency in using computer software to assist with and discuss custom reporting requirements with data analysts to generate project-specific tables tailored to client needs.
  • Communicate complicated, technical scenarios and implications to multiple parties (contractors, laboratories, data analysts, consultants) resulting in resolutions.

Project Management Contributions

  • Work directly with clients to field requests, deliver output, and discuss complexities associated with on-going tasks (may include travel).
  • Provide oversight and Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) of tasks performed by other environmental chemists (EC) and, potentially, other ddms personnel.
  • Understanding the roles of outside contractors, as necessary.
  • Constant assessment and recommendations to the client where ddms services might be brought to bear on a project when it benefits the client.
  • Identification and acquisition of new projects through existing clients or new projects through new clients.

Team Contributions:

  • Collaborate in building automated tools to further the development of the ddms process, including building and continually improving ddms’ technical training programs, emphasizing accuracy, efficiency, technical validity, standardization, and error reduction.
  • Further self-learning, while providing guidance to advance the competencies of the entire department.
  • Support the drafting of white papers explaining technical subjects of potential interest to existing and potential clients and colleagues.

Location: This position can be either hybrid in our St. Paul, MN office or remote in any of the following states: Alabama, California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, or Wisconsin.
Compensation: The annual salary for this position ranges from $85,000 to $115,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
