1. Clinical Practice: Provide exceptional patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including performing interventional gastroenterological procedures, diagnosing and treating complex gastrointestinal disorders, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team, and maintaining accurate medical records.
1.1 Inpatient Care: Provide high-quality clinical care to patients requiring interventional gastroenterology services in the inpatient setting.
1.2 Outpatient Care: Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with complex gastrointestinal disorders in the outpatient setting, including performing consultations, follow-up visits, and coordinating appropriate interventions.
1.3 Procedures: Perform Interventional/Advanced endoscopy procedures at St. Joseph’s Health, including but not limited to: Endoscopic Mucosal Resection, Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection, Endoscopic Ultrasound, ERCP, Endoscopic Myotomy, Double Balloon Enteroscopy, Cholangioscopy, Electrohydraulic Lithotripsy, Endoscopic Suturing, Radiofrequency Ablation, and other innovative procedures beyond standard endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures.
1.4 Emergency call: Provide procedural and inpatient call coverage for the interventional gastroenterology service of St. Joseph’s as determined by the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology.
2. Patient Care and Management
2.1 Diagnosis and Treatment: Accurately diagnose and develop comprehensive treatment plans for patients with complex gastrointestinal disorders, including gastrointestinal bleeding, strictures, tumors, and other conditions requiring specialized interventions.
2.2 Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including gastroenterologists, surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, and other specialists, as to best practices for advanced procedures to provide comprehensive and coordinated patient care.
2.3 Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about their medical conditions, treatment options, and post-procedural care, ensuring a clear understanding and active participation in the management of their health.
2.4 Provide inpatient and outpatient consultation for the aforementioned procedures at ST Joseph’s Health, or other location(s) as determined by the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Chair, Department of Medicine.
3. Research and Scholarly Activities
3.1 Research Initiatives: Engage in scholarly activities, including clinical research, quality improvement projects, and participation in multicenter trials, to advance the field of interventional gastroenterology.
3.2 Publications and Presentations: Disseminate research findings through publications in reputable medical journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
3.3 Continuing Education: Stay abreast of the latest advancements, techniques, and guidelines in interventional gastroenterology through active participation in continuing medical education activities and professional development opportunities.
4. Teaching and Mentorship
4.1 Educational Instruction: Educate and supervise medical students, residents, and fellows, providing didactic lectures, case-based discussions, and hands-on training in interventional gastroenterology and engage in other educational endeavors as designated by the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, or the Chair of the Department of Medicine.
4.2 Clinical Supervision: Provide direct supervision and mentorship to trainees during clinical rotations, ensuring the development of clinical skills, knowledge, and professionalism.
4.3 Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational curricula and instructional materials, incorporating the latest advancements and evidence-based practices in interventional gastroenterology
5. Institutional Responsibilities: Perform other related duties as assigned.
5.1 Participate in quality and safety reviews conducted within the Division of Gastroenterology.
5.2 Attend Department of Medicine faculty meetings, quarterly Medical Staff meetings, and/or other meetings as designated by the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, or the Chair of the Department of Medicine.
