Job Overview
Responsible for maintaining the master schedule of patient appointments for outpatient clinic visits. This includes scheduling appointments for new and return patients according to hospital policies. Effectively utilizes the computerized SHCIS appointment system. Demonstrates effective and age appropriate communication skills by phone and in person with patients, families, staff, Shriners and other visitors. Keeps current as the database is updated and/or changed.
Responsibilities
Coordinates Day-To-Day Clinic Operations
- Schedules or re-schedules clinic appointments in SHCIS accurately and timely.
- Ensures outpatients scheduled for visits are registered in SHCIS and that labels, itinerary, and ID sheet are
placed in front of chart.
- Sends written notifications of regularly scheduled appointments to patients, families, and Temples.
- Gives verbal notification of add-ons and unscheduled appointments to nursing staff upon patient’s arrival to
clinic.
- Types clinic schedules without error and/or retrieves and distributes computer copies by 4:00 pm one day
prior to clinic
- Orients all new patients and families to OPD and explain HIPAA/clinic forms prior to completion of initial
appointment.
Maintains a Clean and Orderly Working Environment
- Keeps clinic reception and copy area neat and orderly at all times.
Maintains Communication
- Answers telephone calls within 3-4 rings.
- Refers identified problems to appropriate staff member.
Demonstrates Self-Development
- Attends 100% of all mandatory in-services, including annual CPR training, and 75% of all non-mandatory
hospital in-services.
- Attends 80% of monthly staff meetings and reviews and initials minutes.
- Completes self-evaluation prior to scheduled conference with Director.

Qualifications
Education
Degree of Study Preferred
High School Diploma/GED General Studies Required
Experience
1 Year Scheduling, registration and insurance
verification preferred
1 Year Microsoft Office Applications required
1 Year Organizational skills required
1 Year Communication Skills required
Certification and Licensures
Basic Life Support (BLS) Required (must obtain within 30 days of hire)
(Pay range for this position is $16.43-24.64/hr DOE. The hired applicant’s placement within the range is based on qualifications, professional experience and education)
