The Art School in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Studio Art (with a focus on painting, drawing and other 2-D media) at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in Fall of 2026. Candidates must be a practicing artist with experience in traditional and non-traditional media. Additionally, candidates must have teaching experience in studio art at the university/college level.
Located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, The Art School at DePaul University offers three degrees (BA in Art; BA in Art, Media, and Design; BFA in Art, Media, and Design) with dedicated painting, drawing, printmaking, photography (darkroom and digital), and sculpture studios along with computer labs and print facilities.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Produce and exhibit high-quality artwork and/or academic research
- Teach undergraduate studio art and seminar courses for The Art School with additional teaching opportunities through the university’s Liberal Studies and Honors Programs.
- Engage with faculty colleagues and contribute to The Art School’s academic environment
- Participate in The Art School, college, and university service activities
- Support student recruitment, mentoring, and retention
- Contribute to the visibility and impact of The Art School through active involvement in exhibitions, events, and other engagements.
Qualifications:
- Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in a studio art discipline
- Strong creative studio output and/or academic research
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level

DePaul University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the qualifications, education, experience, and training of the selected candidate, the scope and responsibilities of the position, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

About DePaul University’s Academic Calendar
Except for the College of Law, DePaul University operates on a quarter system. Classes in Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters are 11 weeks in length (including finals week) and Summer courses, in two sessions, are typically 5 weeks in length. The College of Law operates on the semester system. Classes in the Fall and Spring semesters are 16 weeks in length (including finals week) and it offers a Summer Session of 7 weeks (including final exams).
Salary Information: The salary range for this 10-month position is $64,200 – $67,500, commensurate with qualifications and experience
