Assistant Professor(s) of Rhetoric and Composition

The Department of English at Tulane University is searching for up to two assistant professors (tenure-track) in the field of rhetoric and composition. The successful candidates will add to the research and teaching strengths of a department that includes distinguished creative writers and scholars of literature and culture across numerous subfields. These positions represent a university investment in an area of growth. They are designed to bring research leadership in the field of rhetoric and composition, combined with undergraduate teaching and curriculum development.

Desirable subfields of research specialization include (but are not limited to): composition and contemporary technologies, public and community rhetorics, histories of rhetoric, and rhetoric/composition theory. PhD required in Rhetoric, Rhetoric and Composition, Communication, English, or related humanities field, with a research specialization in Rhetoric and/or Composition.

2/2 teaching load includes courses in first-year writing and across the expository writing and composition curriculum.

Candidates should post a letter of Application, curriculum vita, names of three references, and a writing sample of 15-30 pages through Interfolio by December 7, 2025.

Qualifications

PhD required in Rhetoric, Rhetoric and Composition, Communication, English, or related humanities field, with a research specialization in Rhetoric and/or Composition.
