Our University Stores team consists of four retail locations as well as an in-house buying, planning, and merchandising team. The University Store on Fifth is the official on-campus retailer for students, faculty, and staff, stocking a large range of items from tech to school supplies to books. The Pitt Shop is a Panther fan’s one stop retail location, carrying all major apparel brands and accessories for the tiniest fans to our esteemed alumni. Maggie & Stella’s Cards & Gifts, named after Pitt’s first full-time female students, carries an array of gifts ranging from simple to elegant high-end merchandise.

Job Summary

Supervises team, manages training and scheduling, and ensures compliance with policies and procedures. Enforces safety and security processes and practices and ensures store is properly stocked. Resolves customer inquiries and issues. Opens and closes store and assists with store management and buying responsibilities.

Essential Functions The University of Pittsburgh’s Business, Hospitality, and Auxiliary Services is seeking a qualified Assistant Manager for the University Stores. The primary location will be the University Store on Fifth and Maggie & Stella’s cards and gift shop. Duties of the incumbent include but are not limited to

  • Supervision of Shift Leads
  • Assisting customers
  • Scheduling staff and student employees
  • Opening and closing the store
  • Loss prevention
  • Managing and enhancing University Stores’ systems
  • Serves as the acting manager in the absence of the University Store Manager

Required to work evenings, weekends, holiday hours, winter recess, and additional overtime are required. Other duties and special projects as assigned. 

Physical Effort Sitting, standing and walking. May require occasional lifting and moving of merchandise or display fixture.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification Preferred Baccalaureate with 2-3 years of experience, as well as 2 years of proven experience in retail management.

Work Schedule Flexible schedule Monday-Sunday (8am-7pm). Weekends and holidays, including recess are required.

Work Arrangement On-Campus: Teams that work on campus, in an office, or in a lab.
