Attendance Officer

Position Title: Attendance Officer

Salary Range: $58,000

Contract Length: Full-time, Exempt

Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director of Data, Technology and Systems’

Improvement

Attendance Officer’s Duties and Responsibilities

? Assist the administration with the development of district policies and procedures

to address chronic absenteeism, and effectively communicate policies to school

and district stakeholders.

? Facilitate school and district official count reports for state and federal

requirements, and ensure district compliance.

? Collaborate with school administration and counselors to identify students who

are struggling with regular attendance.

? Facilitate and participate in student outreach that involves home visits,

community partnership development, and parent communication and conferences

as needed

? Align services and supports with community service centers such as the

Department of Family and Children (DCS) and the CASIE Center

? Leverage district and community resources and partnerships to support

students who have withdrawn, or on the verge of high school dropout, in

re-engaging in various educational programs and opportunities

? Develop a strong understanding of Graduation Pathways and Indiana

graduation requirements

? Cultivate a strong relationship with various adult learning programs, including

Adult Education administration

? Prepare and present reports to stakeholder groups including, but not limited

to: School Board, superintendent, principals as directed

? Support recruitment and marketing efforts for magnet and specialty

education programming across the district.

? Collaborate with higher education institutions to support students with

postsecondary opportunities.

? Establish communication pipelines with all necessary departments to facilitate

the success of all students.

? Monitor student movement within the school district via transfers.

? Design techniques to enforce South Bend Community School’s attendance

policy

? Assisting South Bend Community School Corporation with enforcing Indiana

State Law: Indiana Code 20-33-2-28 (b)

? Monitor the flow of Affidavit submissions

? Upon receipt of Affidavits, redistribute signed documents to St. Joseph

County Prosecutor’s Office and school’s Attendance Officers

? Consult with principals/teachers involving students with chronic absenteeism

? Meet regularly with outside stakeholders that advocate for student wellbeing

? Align services and supports with community service centers such as the

Department of Family and Children (DCS), Juvenile Justice Center (JJC), and the

CASIE Center

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a BA degree from an accredited college or

university along with strong planning, listening, organizational,

supervisory, analytical, problem-solving, computer, organizational,

accountability, multi-tasking, flexibility, resourcefulness, and oral and

written communications skills. Applicants must possess knowledge of

the comprehensive organization, operations, policies and objectives

of assigned department or area.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly

required to speak and hear. The employee is required to have

dexterity of hands and fingers. The employee is required to sit or

stand for extended periods of time. They may be occasionally

required to bend at the waist, kneel or crouch. Specific vision abilities

required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is seated or

walking at will and must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 25

pounds.
