Summary
SRP is currently recruiting a College Interns for students majoring in engineering programs. This internship provides “on-the-job” experience to develop skills and provide exposure to the power utility industry, specifically, for the Substation Design, Construction, and Maintenance teams. The student intern will work daily scheduled hours based on the department’s needs, with a minimum requirement of 15 hours and up to 29.5 hours per week maximum.
Substation Design, Construction, and Maintenance (SDC&M) is responsible for the reliability of SRP substation assets. The SDC&M mission is accomplished by effectively and efficiently managing resources, by providing innovative and sustainable engineering solutions, by providing quality construction services and designs, and by providing safe maintenance practices that ensure reliability and meet industry standards.
Engineering majors currently under consideration include: Electrical and Civil.
SDC&M Teams:
- Substation Design is a comprehensive design service organization that is responsible for the design of transmission, industrial, commercial and distribution stations, as well as providing planning, estimating, engineering, material procurement and support for customers in substation construction and maintenance.
- Substation Maintenance Engineering & Technical Services provides engineering and technical support in the management of substation assets. Responsibilities are spread across five functional areas:
- Substation Maintenance Engineering – Designs and continuously improves the substation maintenance program.
What You’ll Do
- Supporting existing maintenance engineering activities
- Assist with Root Cause investigations for equipment failures.
- Research manufacturer drawings, manuals, technical documents to support field crews.
- Assist engineers with project management of electrical crews and outside departments during equipment failure and replacements.
- Assist engineers with analyzing dissolved gas samples and electrical test results for equipment health assessments during routine maintenance activities.
- And/or other job-related tasks as assigned by the manager
Additional Information
Training and Learning Outcomes:
- On-the-job training in a variety of areas including civil, physical, and electrical design, MicroStation, Mathcad, and familiarity with electrical industry standards as pertains to electrical and civil design.
Pay Structure/Hours/Hybrid Workplace:
- This is a paid opportunity for a student working a minimum of 15 hours per week up to 40 hours per week. However, work hours and schedules may fluctuate based on departmental needs.
- Applicant must be enrolled and attending a minimum of six (6) college credits per Semester (200 or higher-level courses) for the duration of the internship.
- Pay rate is $18.75 per hour for an undergraduate intern and $20.80 per hour for a graduate intern.
Experience
- Experience with MicroStation and Mathcad preferred, but not required.
Education
College level coursework (100+) from an accredited institution will be evaluated on an individual basis according to the skill/level to determine if applicable to the position by management.
Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
