Job Mode: On-Site
Pay rate: $29.36/hour on w2 without benefits

Job Description: - This role involves the direct care, supervision, safety, and security of youth in a secure facility. Staff are responsible for continuously observing and managing youth behavior, enforcing rules, and intervening in crises using de-escalation techniques or approved physical responses when necessary. Duties include conducting searches, monitoring for contraband, maintaining safety protocols (including suicide prevention), and implementing behavioral or safety plans. The position requires making real-time decisions about youth behavior, safety interventions, and appropriate communication methods—all guided by training, policy, and supervisor input. Challenges include evaluating and managing youth with diverse needs, maintaining boundaries, and ensuring safety without excessive force, always adhering to agency policies and standards.
- This role involves accurate and timely documentation of youth behavior, unit activities, searches, incident reports, and status updates (such as Suicide Precaution Monitoring and Medical Watch). Staff are responsible for maintaining records in both hard copy and digital systems (e.g., TRAILS database), handling legal and property documentation, and ensuring that critical youth information is properly communicated to relevant parties. They must also ensure suicide risk assessments are completed within required timeframes and report any abuse as mandatory reporters under state law.
- Regular decisions include determining what details are necessary to record and communicate for accurate reporting and smooth staff transitions. Challenges include understanding complex reporting protocols and adapting to changing data systems, guided by training, manuals, and supervisory support.
- This role emphasizes the importance of maintaining a respectful, positive, and professional environment within the Youth Center. Employees are expected to communicate respectfully with all individuals—youth, coworkers, supervisors, and external partners—while adhering to the CDHS Code of Conduct, Sanctuary 7 Commitments, and DYS policies and legal standards. They must follow proper protocols for scheduling, timekeeping, and supervisor directives, and complete any additional assigned duties.
- Regular decisions include determining how best to communicate and behave in a way that fosters a healthy work culture, and how to apply relevant policies and procedures in day-to-day operations. Challenges may arise when disagreements or negativity occur within the team, in which case employees are expected to consult policies and supervisors to maintain a positive and compliant work environment.
- This position requires employees to actively participate in all assigned training, successfully complete any required testing or skill demonstrations, and maintain all necessary certifications. This includes completing DYS Pre-Service and Youth Center Orientation, staying current with mandatory training, and completing assigned online modules through Cornerstone. Staff must also maintain physical readiness and support the agency’s behavioral management strategies.
- Ongoing decisions include determining how to prepare for and engage with training effectively. Common challenges include mastering required skills, retaining and applying new knowledge, and demonstrating proficiency at an acceptable pace—all guided by structured training, support, and policy expectations.
