Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the internship position encompass all aspects of the Directorate’s work. These responsibilities may include but are not limited to: • Assist in analysing and interpreting counter-terrorism instruments and laws from a human rights perspective. • Researches and collects information pertaining to human rights and counter-terrorism matters. • Assists in the preparation of analytical human rights background and briefing papers. • Assists in drafting reports, summary notes and correspondence relating to human rights matters, as appropriate. • Maintains awareness of relevant human rights issues, including at country level. • Assists in preparing documents needed for the organization of workshops, seminars and briefings. • Liaises with external partners, as appropriate. • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for the United Nations Secretariat internship programme applicants must, at the time of their submission, be enrolled in a graduate school programme (i.e. Master’s degree or equivalent degree, or higher) or in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (i.e. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree), preferably in the area of law, political science, international relations, social sciences or a related field, OR have graduated with a university degree as defined above AND, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period from the date of graduation.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required.
