Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the office of the Director of the Documentation Division of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in New York, under the general supervision of the Director of the Division.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Programme Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Supports the Director in the modernization of documentation operations, including recruitment, training and change management activities. • Develops, manages and evaluates linguistic programmes/projects and implements related change management activities. • Researches, analyses and presents information gathered from diverse sources related to linguistic issues and trends, including language technologies. • Drafts and revises records, in particular those requiring experience and recognized proficiency in the language area, while meeting required standards and deadlines. • Drafts and revises reports of meetings, either after attending meetings as part of a team or individually and taking notes or using recordings, and/or compiles the report, while meeting standards and deadlines. • Contributes to the development of documentation policies and practices. • Provides information on policies and practices in documentation. • Identifies new terminology material, submits it for approval and contributes to the setting of terminology standards, while making proposals for updates. • Actively seeks to learn from feedback and develop own skills and knowledge relevant to the job, especially through self-study, being able, afterwards, to share the knowledge gained. • Makes effective use of relevant language technologies and tools and contributes to promoting their utilization, while keeping abreast of new developments and making suggestions for the use of new tools and technologies. • Advises and assists team members and briefs them on procedures and practices, terminology and a broad range of subjects, as required. • Coordinates the work of small teams, determining and monitoring deadlines and providing guidance. • Supports the Director and documentation managers with programming long-term work, if required. • Compiles and analyses quality control data of documents produced internally and externally and contributes to the establishment of quality control criteria and procedures. • Acts as First Reporting Officer of staff in the Office of the Director. • Undertakes cross-assignments to perform other language functions, if required. • Collects and analyses data, as appropriate, as input for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentations and reporting. • Performs other related duties as required.

Education
A first-level degree from a university or an institution of equivalent status. Candidates for this position are required to have passed the United Nations Language Competitive Examination for Language Professionals or any United Nations language competitive examinations held on or before 2017.
Job – Specific Qualification
Having passed any United Nations Competitive Examination for language positions is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in language function and in the use of relevant language technologies, is required, of which three years in the United Nations or a similar international organization. Managerial experience is required. Experience with PRINCE2, Managing Successful Programmes or any other project management methodology is desirable.
Languages
A perfect command of English and knowledge of at least one other official language, as assessed in the relevant Competitive Examination is required. Knowledge of other official languages is desirable. Candidates for this position is required to have passed the United Nations Language Competitive Examination for language professionals or any United Nations language competitive examinations held on or before 2017.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include a computer-based written assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
