Director, HR – West Henrietta

The Director of Human Resources position is responsible for providing strategic leadership in the alignment of business objectives for employees and management. This position will be an active member of the Sr. Leadership team, maintaining an effective level of business literacy about the business unit’s financial position, its midrange plans, its culture, and its competition.

This role leads the HR function for all employees in the West Henrietta, New York office, and serves as a consultant to management on HR-related issues. The successful HR Director will act as an employee advocate and change agent, as well as assess and anticipate HR-related needs. Position must effectively partner with Sr. HR Managers for other functions located in West Henrietta, such as Packaging and Global Supply Chain.

The role formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization. Plans, directs and administers the Human Resources function for the US Packaging & Distribution Organization and actively participates in HR Leadership meetings. Responsibilities of this role in include coordinating the HR LRSP and current agenda and initiatives. Proactively leads employee engagement, development, recruitment, program administration, wage and benefit administration, policy administration and employee relations.

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:

  • Develops and leads human resources activities consistent with CooperVision’s Human Resource Long Range Strategic Plan goals.
  • Aligns CooperVision’s HR strategic initiatives with customer needs and translates strategic and tactical business plans into operational plans.
  • Consults with line management, providing HR guidance when appropriate. 
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies. 
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Ensures through subordinate staff that HR leads effective, thorough and objective investigations. 
  • Partners closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention. 
  • Reviews personnel actions such as merit increases, promotions, transfers and disciplinary actions and advises supervisors/managers to assure compliance with established company objectives.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partner with the legal department as needed/required. 
  • Provides day-to-day performance management leadership to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions). 
  • Directs the activities of recruitment, placement and orientation of employees.
  • Develops company policies around HR support, activity, and employee relations.
  • Responsible for developing annual departmental budget for staffing and capital expenditures and ensures that the department operates within budget guidelines.
  • Maintains department statistics for corporate administration and regulatory purposes.
  • Maintains professional affiliations and participates in professional and community activities to keep abreast of developments in the industry and in human resources.
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience exhibiting strategic leadership skills.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong business partnerships and working relationships across functions, levels, and locations.
  • Strong analytical skills, to include expert understanding of HR-related KPIs, and the ability to effectively communicate those to the client group.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven problem solving and conflict management skills.
  • Experience working with empowered/self-directed work team preferred.
  • Willing to travel.
  • Able to work overtime if necessary.
  • Work under minimum supervision.
  • Knowledge of QSR (Quality System Regulations) and ISO 13485.
  • Advanced Computer skills (i.e. excel, word, power point).
  • Must be able to give clear direction, communicate expectations and provide feedback to all levels of personnel.

Work Environment:

  • Generally works in a closed environment, in office conditions, with normal level of noise and controllable change of temperature. 
  • Needs to stand, walk and may be seated for a long period of time. 
  • Uses hand to handle and reach. 
  • Could be required to travel (domestic & international)
  • Work with a personal computer and programs to prepare documents or reports.
  • Applies communications skills (advance reading, writing and technical skills) and mathematical
  • Concepts knowledge to perform work and coordinate with others. 
  • Needs to have high analytical capacity and level of professionalism and judgment to resolve problems. 

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years human resources management experience.
  • Must have the ability to report, write, interview, as well as counsel and advise people, in order to solve problems.
  • Experience influencing and building consensus with executives and other key stakeholders. 
  • Experience presenting and communicating to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Experience managing projects and leading new initiatives.

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in Human Resources or related field required.
  • Master’s Degree in related field preferred.
  • SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or related senior-level HR Certification preferred.

For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting base pay for this role is between $136,198 and $209,535 per year and may include cost of living adjustments. The actual base pay includes many factors and is subject to change and modification in the future. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation and benefits.
