A Fire Lieutenant supervises firefighting teams, manages emergency responses, and ensures safety protocols are followed while providing training and public education.
position is contingent upon contract award.
Responsibilities
Supervision:
Oversee the daily operations of a firefighting team, including assigning tasks and evaluating performance. Fire Lieutenants are responsible for managing personnel during emergency responses and ensuring that all safety protocols are adhered to.
Emergency Response:
Respond to fire, medical, and hazardous materials incidents, taking command and control until relieved by a superior officer. They are involved in direct firefighting activities and emergency medical care.
Training and Development:
Conduct training sessions for new firefighters and ongoing training for existing staff. This includes educating team members on firefighting techniques, equipment operation, and emergency medical procedures.
Public Education:
Engage with the community to promote fire safety and prevention. This may involve conducting public demonstrations, station tours, and educational programs.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain records, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Fire Lieutenants may also be involved in equipment inspections and maintenance.
Qualifications
- Must have 5+ years of experience in this field.
- HS or GED.
- Must meet Emergency Services Certification Program (F&ESCP) standards.
- Fire Officer I.
- Firefighter II.
- Driver Operator.
- Hazardous Materials Operations.
- Technical Rescue.
- EMT – Basic.
- Fire Inspector I (Desired).
- Fire Instructor I (Desired).
