Fitter Operator

Michigan Gas Utilities delivers natural gas to customers in southern and western Michigan.

MGU, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Fitter Operator in our Monroe, Michigan location.

Job Summary

As directed by the Crew Leader, performs all types of work in the construction, operation and maintenance of the natural gas distribution system. Operates and makes minor repairs to special equipment which is assigned to him/her, such as trenching machines, tractors and trucks, winches, etc.; assists employees of a higher classification in installing and repairing gas mains and services of all types, sizes and pressures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate construction equipment. trenching/shoring, etc.
  • Perform all types of work required for the construction, maintenance and installation of the natural gas system.
  • Install/remove domestic meters/regulators and various chart changes.
  • Other construction and maintenance work as directed.
  • Leak survey and leak repairs of the gas system.
  • Staking/locating of the gas system.
  • Valve maintenance.
  • Read meters or other common duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma, HSED, or GED.
  • 1+ years experience operating trenchers and backhoes.
  • 1+ years experience with plumbing and/or pipe fitting.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain a CDL within 90 days or agreed upon date from the company.
  • You must live in the Monroe service territory or relocate to the service territory in order to enable timely response to emergencies & standby rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid commercial driver’s license.

Minimum Posting Range: $27.83

Maximum Posting Range: $39.54

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
