DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Food Service Worker 1, you will perform routine work in the preparation of meals and sanitation of food preparation and serving areas at the Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center. Key duties of the position include cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, dishes, pots, pans, work surfaces, and other kitchen items; preparing trays, measuring portions, serving food, and transporting trays, carts, and nourishment; using equipment such as mixers, dicers, slicers, knives, and grinders. Your attention to detail and adherence to food safety protocols will be vital in providing nutritious and enjoyable meals for our residents.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment (8 hours per day/40 hours per week)
  • Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, rotating days off and weekends, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Additional requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willingness and ability to work in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania
  • Willing and able to work a 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM shift, with rotating days and weekends to be determined
  • Food service experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, hospital, restaurant, or other food service operation
  • Work experience interacting with patients, residents, or customers while serving food/cleaning in patient/resident rooms or a dining room setting
  • Work experience with food safety and sanitation in a dietary department

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
