The Office of Strategic Communications bears primary responsibility for maintaining and safeguarding the university’s public image through strategic marketing practices, public relations, media relations, news services, publications, executive messaging and crisis/emergency communications. The staff establishes standards for articulating the University’s mission, vision, core values, strategic goals and visual identity, for promoting the University’s performances, events, philanthropic opportunities and the accomplishments of its students, alumni, and faculty and staff to external audiences that include potential students and parents, alumni, supporters, and the general public.
Additional departmental responsibilities include maintaining all the University’s external communications, including the website, social media, print publications, and fundraising materials and ensuring that all communications adhere to branding guidelines, standards of writing style, and institutional messaging. With a primary focus on external communications, the Office of Strategic Communications also offers expertise, insight and strategic planning to the Chancellor and other senior-level administrators on communications issues and events within the campus community.
The Office of Advancement directly supports UNCSA’s mission and strategic priorities by building meaningful relationships with a variety of constituents and developing opportunities at all levels of alumni, volunteer, and philanthropic engagement. The Office of Advancement works closely with campus leadership, the UNCSA Foundation, and Strategic Communications.

Primary Description of Work
Work in this class involves performing a range of visual/graphic arts functions used in
promotional, instructional, and educational materials. Work includes concepting, designing and delivering products that visually communicate information through collateral such as brochures, posters, booklets, magazines, annual reports, invitations, promotional products, murals, identity graphics, displays, social media, marketing emails and other digital pieces.
This position will execute artistic representations by using software and hardware, photography, and various digital and custom drawn illustrations. Understanding of printing practices is key to creating and completing projects ready to produce. The position may also be responsible for consulting with clients to determine project parameters such as purpose, audience, conceptual focus, and scope and concept cost options.
This position requires strong attention to detail and understanding of maintaining consistent brand standards, while efficiently and effectively working through a queue of jobs simultaneously. Work may include leading and directing staff.

M-F 8am-5pm
Description of Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develop, create, execute, and manage graphic design projects assigned to the Department of Creative Services, primarily by the Office of Advancement. Develop concepts with the client, director, and leadership by defining the function, audience, distribution method, budget, and other factors pertinent to the project.
  • Translate client’s needs as established above, into design concept. Determine format (e.g., brochure, booklet, poster, web ad, web page, etc.). Specify typography, paper stock, dimensions, ink colors, folds, special effects, and other design criteria. Request photographer, if needed.
  • Coordinate with client in selecting models, scheduling, and choosing locations. Art direct photo sessions.
  • Select, digitally enhance, crop, position and size photographs.
  • Create comprehensive design and work with director until both are satisfied.
  • Maintain a comprehensive visual identity program for the university by applying uniform graphic standards in the creation of designs for university publications and web pages so that a consistent look prevails.
  • Designs digital graphics for web pages, advertisements, email marketing and other electronic media.
  • Save and back up files according to departmental standards.
  • Manage deadlines of assigned projects.
  • Keep accurate records in time keeping system and database for traffic of job requests.
  • Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of visual/graphic arts experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in digital graphic design and illustration.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suites software including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Strong project management, analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in time-sensitive situations to meet deadlines, coordinate multiple projects and complex tasks simultaneously, and manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent judgment, impeccable integrity and reliability, and high ethical standards that engender trust.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
