position Overview

The Ground Improvement Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating field operations related to ground improvement techniques such as vibro stone columns, rammed aggregate piers, full displacement columns, auger cast piles, dynamic compaction, or other soil stabilization methods. The Foreman ensures that work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, while leading crews and coordinating with engineers, project managers, and subcontractors.


Key Responsibilities

Site Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervise and direct crews performing ground improvement works.
  • Plan daily activities, allocate manpower, and oversee equipment operation.
  • Provide hands-on guidance, mentoring, and training to field staff.

Technical & Operational

  • Read and interpret geotechnical reports, construction drawings, and method statements.
  • Oversee installation of stone columns, grouting and other ground treatment techniques.
  • Monitor drilling, mixing, pumping and compaction parameters to ensure compliance with design.
  • Troubleshoot field issues and coordinate with engineers for adjustments.
  • Ensure proper handling and maintenance of equipment and materials.

Safety & Quality

  • Promote and enforce company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings and inspections.
  • Ensure that quality control testing (BST, CPT, load testing, column diameter checks, grout strength samples, etc.) is performed as required.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate daily logs of manpower, equipment, and production.

Coordination & Communication

  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, and surveyors to meet production goals.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, subcontractors, and equipment mobilization.
  • Report daily progress, issues, and resource needs to site management.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in ground improvement, geotechnical, or deep foundation construction.
  • Previous supervisory or foreman-level experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of soil stabilization methods (vibro replacement, grouting, drilling, etc.).
  • Ability to interpret geotechnical and construction drawings.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification or equivalent safety training required.
  • Experience with ground improvement equipment (rigs, cranes, grout plants) a must.

Working Conditions

  • Construction site environment; outdoor work in variable conditions.
  • Extended hours, nights, and weekends may be required.
  • Physically demanding role involving supervision near heavy equipment.

Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation)

Must be able to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds on a frequent basis; prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and climbing into equipment is required daily. A full range of arm, hand and leg motions are required to operate construction equipment. The ability to move through job site. Work is performed outside, occasionally in environments that are dusty, noisy, cold, or hot. Near-vision acuity is required to inspect repairs and maintenance, read blueprints, manuals, and other similar documents and adequate far-vision for spotting for approaching equipment.

Potential Earnings

Earnings Potential: You earn travel time to each project, $55/day meal assistance, and then travel time to get home two weeks later, (higher in the northeast). Your hotel room is paid for and in addition to your hourly rate, you are working consistent overtime. Our rate of pay is generally between $30/hour and $40/hour depending on your experience. $1200/week – $30 x 40 hours
$450/week – $45 x 10 hours overtime 
$225/week – $30/hour based on 5 hours of travel time each week
$275 – $55/day per diem for miscellaneous expenses while traveling
$111,800/year- Total potential earnings
