Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in Health Information Management, Information Technology, or business-related discipline preferred
RHIT certification or equivalent experience required
One to two years of Health Information Management experience required
Knowledge of specialty-specific terminology and documentation preferred
Clinical background preferred
Knowledge of release of information state and federal regulations
Knowledge of electronic medical record systems and/or medical record processes
Knowledge of Health Information Management department processes to understand the needs of the medical staff
Comprehension and Application of relevant legal concepts (e.g. confidentiality requirements)
Job Responsibilities:
Sorts incoming requests, reviews requests for health information to ensure all required data elements are present, logs requests into request management electronic system, and rejects authorizations as appropriate.
Responds to and processes all requests for health information from various requestors including patients, healthcare providers, third party payers, attorneys, disability, etc., in a professional manner.
Creates and distributes invoices for billable release of information.
Receives and processes payments for billable release of information.
Manages incoming and outgoing phone calls professionally and timely.
Documents disclosure messages when appropriate.
Analyzes problems and develops realistic and effective solutions.
Reviews images for quality and verifying the image is uploaded to the correct patient chart.
Resource for research abstractors.
Serves as a staff and patient resource for release of information.
Other duties as assigned.
