Primary Responsibilities
HDR’s Healthcare Planner will: provide planning, design and coordination support on healthcare-related and other architectural projects; take responsibility for facility and departmental planning of healthcare and research facilities, incorporating understanding of the health design complexities at the macro level of Inter and Intra departmental relationships and at the micro level of the individual Key Planning Units (KPUs) or spaces; meet directly or virtually with clients, analyzing the client’s needs and conceiving/developing architectural solutions commensurate with those needs; research, plan, design building projects for clients, applying knowledge of design & construction procedures, zoning and building codes, life safety codes, and healthcare codes & standards; understand current trends in healthcare delivery, the impact of new concepts of patient and staff flow as they relate to medical planning and the impact of newly emerging technology in medical equipment and medical communications in hospitals; demonstrate a deep interest in developing a health expertise and understanding Health Trends and seek educational opportunities to gain deeper knowledge of healthcare design trends and to share that information within HDR; assist in setting and maintaining QC standards in health programming, planning, and design; engage in problem solving, teamwork, critical thinking, mathematical reasoning, and visualization to create accurate and detailed architectural drawings; prepare drawings and architectural specification documents; mentor junior staff or other interested colleagues in health planning practices; provide guidance to other designers and work with the various engineering disciplines throughout the schematic and design development phases to ensure that the solution accommodates technical needs and the owner’s program; assist the coordination of all disciplines related to the building design and health planning; and participate in relevant community activities to promote firm’s vision and values.

Required Qualifications
- A Master’s Degree in Architecture or a closely related field and 2 years of experience in architecture or a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or a closely related field and 5 years of experience in architecture.
- Required experience may include professional or internship experience and must include experience in: healthcare design and planning, digital drawing/modeling, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Illustrator, InDesign, Enscape, Revit, BlueBeam, and MS Office. Experience may have been concurrently.
- Possible overnight regional or national travel up to 3 days per month.
