Wage: $21.00-22.00/hour Job Location: Head Start Classrooms in Bozeman & Belgrade General Summary of Purpose of this Position: The purpose of a high-needs para position is to support the classroom teacher in addressing the unique needs of students. This includes fostering academic progress, self-help skills, social and emotional development, and appropriate behavior. The role also involves ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all students, staff, and others within the school. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Assists Teaching Staff with Classroom Activities (60%) Accepts direction from the teacher, classroom staff and site supervisor. Collaborate/communicate with education team as needed for student and program success. Under the guidance of the teacher, prepare and modify lessons and materials to reinforce and aid in student learning and comprehension. Effectively facilitate individual and small group instruction. As necessary, manage student behavior needs, self-help and social/emotional needs. Encourage student independence and self-advocacy while facilitating acceptance/socialization among student peers, staff and others. Assist in maintenance of a safe, clean, learning environment within the classroom and center. Assists with active supervision duties both indoor and outdoors. Instructs and assists children in practices of personal cleanliness, oral health including tooth brushing, toileting skills, self care including caring for own clothing and picking up and putting away toys and books. Ensures that activities are culturally sensitive. Assists on the playground to maintain the safety of children. Interact with children and families in a professional, supportive, and confidential manner. 2. Food and Nutrition (20%) Models Family Style Dining practices to children during all meals and snack times. Assists in unpacking and storing incoming food, supplies, etc; Maintains clean and sanitary classrooms and kitchen work space. Assist with food service items from the classroom at the end of meals and snacks. Periodically assists in laundering of linens and towels, sanitation of sleeping mats. 3. Classroom and Center Cleaning (10%) Maintains a safe, healthy, attractive classroom learning environment; ensures cleanliness of physical space. Ensures cleanliness of physical center space. 4. Continuing Education & Program Development (5%) Attend applicable and mandatory training as directed by supervisor or program standards. Complete all required training for the position, including annual registration and updates with the Montana Early Care and Education Practitioner Registry. 5. Record Keeping (5%) Complete onboarding tasks and mandatory trainings as applicable. Complete and approve individual timesheet.
