position Summary

The Laboratory Assistant supports the Lab Manager / Chemist by carrying out daily laboratory, chemical, and environmental tasks essential to plating operations. This role involves hands-on work with chemical preparation, wastewater treatment, and plating bath monitoring, while ensuring safety, compliance, and accurate documentation. The Laboratory Assistant is a key contributor to maintaining consistent quality and smooth production flow.

The pay depends on experience but offering $25.00 per hour, Monday through Friday. After training, hours will be 6:00-2:30pm.

Key Responsibilities

Chemical Preparation & Handling

  • Assist in preparing and mixing chemical solutions and plating tank makeups.
  • Follow precise measurement requirements to ensure accuracy.
  • Safely handle, label, and store chemicals in compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Wastewater Treatment & Environmental Compliance

  • Operate and maintain wastewater treatment systems to ensure proper discharge and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Perform routine checks and adjustments to maintain optimal system performance.
  • Record and report results from wastewater monitoring.

Laboratory & Quality Support

  • Support laboratory chemists in performing routine chemical analyses and plating bath tests.
  • Help maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.
  • Assist Quality Assurance in addressing deviations and verifying compliance with specifications.

Process Monitoring

  • Monitor plating bath parameters and report abnormalities.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts to resolve chemical or plating process issues.
  • Communicate findings to the Lab Manager and production team.

Material Handling

  • Safely operate a forklift to unload, move, and stage chemicals.
  • Follow established procedures for receiving, transporting, and storing chemical containers.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of chemical usage, bath adjustments, wastewater treatments, and lab test results.
  • Assist in generating reports required for compliance, audits, and process reviews.

Safety & Compliance

  • Consistently follow all safety protocols for chemical handling, forklift operation, and laboratory practices.
  • Participate in regular safety training and contribute to a safe work environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or coursework in chemistry, environmental science, or related field preferred.
  • 1–2 years of laboratory or chemical handling experience is a plus (plating/metal finishing experience preferred).
  • Ability to operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment (training provided if not certified).
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and willingness to learn.
  • Must be comfortable working around chemicals and adhering to strict safety protocols.
