Overview: The Strategic Issues & Litigation Group is responsible for the oversight, evaluation, and management of complex, high-stakes litigation and investigations, management of retained counsel, and other functions. The legal analyst to be hired will be part of a tightly integrated team coordinating legal initiatives and providing comprehensive, high-quality legal advice and advocacy. The analyst is expected to be an involved, strongly productive member of the SI&L team. Strong analytical, problem solving, and oral and written communication skills are essential. The ability to work closely and collaboratively with in-house counsel, legal analysts, eDiscovery project managers, and outside law firms is critical.

This position will be part of the team reporting to the Chief Counsel for Strategic Issues & Litigation of Chevron Corporation. The position will provide paralegal support to high-stakes litigation. The position requires an experienced Legal Analyst who is versed in complex litigation, including eDiscovery, and possesses a commitment to learning and expanding his/her skill set.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

Provide Legal Analyst support to complex litigation, including but not limited to:

  • Partner with the team to help manage all stages of discovery for a complex, multijurisdictional litigation docket in federal and state court.
  • Support the team in managing preservation, data collection, review and production.
  • Conduct factual and legal research, including witness interviews.
  • Work closely with Chevron business partners, Corporate Leads, Legal Analysts, eDiscovery Specialists, and outside counsel to deliver results.
  • Ensure appropriate and best use of tools and processes.
  • Track the progress of eDiscovery and diligence projects to ensure timely completion.
  • Regularly provide updates to the team regarding the status of projects and anticipated completion dates.
  • Maintain and update internal resources for the team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a paralegal which includes the following:
  • Demonstrated success working on complex, multi-jurisdiction litigation matters in federal and state courts, including experience with preservation, discovery, and other procedural requirements in federal and state court and the corresponding impacts on the litigation.
  • Substantial experience in eDiscovery and demonstrated proficiency with eDiscovery tools.
  • Demonstrated practical understanding of privilege and work product protection, evidence collection and handling, investigation and expert and fact witness management, and impacts to complex litigation strategy.
  • Successful proven ability to organize and manage many different workstreams, collaborate with outside counsel and internal team(s), set and maintain calendars, schedules and agenda, and keep communications clear and timely.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain high quality performance with competing deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, proofreading, editing, and research skills.
  • Ability to give effective feedback (both positive and constructive) and receive feedback (both positive and constructive) and act upon it.
  • Self-starter who is adept at working in a team environment and partnering with management, business partners, in-house counsel, outside counsel, and staff.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (both oral and written), including the ability to effectively analyze and communicate across broad functional and organizational lines.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of tools, and the ability to quickly learn new tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA approved program or an advanced degree.
  • Litigation and e-discovery experience working at a law firm.
