Materials Engineer, Cell & Module Manufacturing

What to Expect

The Quality Team at Tesla is seeking a Materials Engineer with a strong background in material testing, analytical methods, and problem-solving methodologies. This role focuses on the control and quality assurance of battery components including cathode and anode materials, electrolytes, and metallic elements etc., while driving innovative solutions for cell manufacturing. The ideal candidate will work cross-functionally to resolve challenges, improve manufacturability, and implement strategies for continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with design, production, reliability, and quality engineering to address issues and improve processes
  • Lead projects from concept through validation to implementation, emphasizing quality
  • Sustain products through cost reduction and yield improvements
  • Use structured problem-solving tools such as DMAIC, 8D, and Ishikawa
  • Analyze data to identify trends and enhance quality and efficiency
  • Monitor and reduce process variation using SPC and MSA techniques
  • Develop and maintain FMEAs, Control Plans, and work instructions for quality testing

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Materials, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 year of experience in Quality, Process Design, Process Improvement or Operations
  • Strong expertise in material testing, including mechanical/structural, chemical and dimensional testing
  • Proficiency in analytical tools: Keyence, SEM-EDS, Instron, Rheometer, FTIR, XRF, and others is preferred
  • Knowledge of statistical tools such as JMP or Minitab for data analysis
  • Experience with root cause analysis, MSA studies and implementing data-driven solutions
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing teams
