Job Title: Mechanical Design EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in design engineering, specifically in the areas of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. This role involves creating and maintaining project diagrams, supporting project management and sales, and ensuring the integrity and safety of our systems.

Responsibilities

  • Understand, create, and maintain project PID (piping and instrumentation diagrams), PFD (process flow diagrams), mechanical layout drawings, engineering schedules, and scope of supply.

  • Support Project Management and Sales to ensure customer and contract satisfaction while maintaining system integrity and safety.

  • Create 3D models of dryer system layouts and 2D files and drawings for specific projects.

  • Maintain design traceability of standard dryer equipment and project-specific modifications.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering managers, mechanical engineers, project managers, electrical engineers, and process engineers to execute projects in a timely and cost-effective manner.

  • Specify, select, recommend, and approve components.

  • Support Purchasing and Quality Control in determining vendor product acceptability.

  • Attend project meetings with customers, engineers, vendors, and manufacturers.

  • Approve and certify mechanical design calculations.

  • Initiate mechanical Bills of Materials through established policies and procedures for release to production.

  • Identify, evaluate, and correct potential mechanical problems and communicate corrective actions to appropriate parties.

  • Support Dryer Sales engineers during the bid phase by preparing preliminary equipment layouts, PIDs, PFDs, and equipment cost estimates.

  • Prepare detailed fabrication drawing sets based on 3D Inventor models.

  • Prepare operating sequences and control loop descriptions for use by control and software engineers using thermal process knowledge.

  • Ensure electrical and controls engineers are updated on mechanical equipment specifications that impact their part of the project.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of five years of related experience in design engineering.

  • Proficiency in Inventor/Vault/SAP/AVEVA E3D, AutoCAD Mechanical, and Microsoft Office software.

  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical needs at all levels of personnel and management.

  • Knowledge of basic machine, fabrication, and welding shop techniques and methods.

  • Experience in cost estimating.

  • Basic knowledge of engineering Bills of Material structure.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask.

  • Familiarity with corporate and group-level procedures for AutoCAD/Inventor/Vault/AVEVA E3D.

  • Basic knowledge of FEA analysis techniques.

  • Ability to work with and maintain digital files (CAD, PDF, WORD, PPT, EXCEL, STEP, NAV, etc.).

Work Environment

This position operates in an office environment with occasional visits to manufacturing and vendor facilities. The role requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The dress code is business casual. Work hours are typically from 9 AM to 5 PM, with occasional overtime as necessary to meet project deadlines.
