Job Description:
  • The Medical Billing Coding Specialist is responsible for billing and analysing procedures and modifiers to troubleshoot and resolve billing issues, rejections, denials, and appeals. The Specialist will work as part of a cross-functional team to ensure all services provided by HCPH are billed in a timely and accurate manner and responsible for remaining up to date on billing guidelines.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Analyse billing procedures and modifiers to resolve billing issues, rejections, denials, and appeals. -Work with Medicaid and all other governmental and commercial insurance carriers to resolve claim errors. -Review billing charges and other data for accuracy and potential reimbursement enhancement.
  • Obtain from applicable providers, clinic, and support staff complete diagnosis information to ensure proper assignment of codes.
  • Respond to questions from staff, insurance carriers, and clients.
  • Run, review, and summarize reports for billing, reimbursement, and accounts receivable.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and health information systems staff regarding billing/coding revisions in the electronic billing system.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team to ensure all services provided are coded and billed in a timely and accurate manner. -Provide feedback on operational improvements to enhance the efficiency of charge capture to reduce denials and optimize overall reimbursement.
  • Work with CHWD to ensure credentials for providers are up to date or added as new providers are hired. -Add clinic locations to TMHP system as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma -An active Billing and Coding Certificate (CPC, CCS, CMC, etc.) -5 years of billing experience and coding denial resolution -Preferred 3 years’ experience billing and coding using an Electronic Medical Records system -Valid TX driver’s license

Work Environment:

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Requirements:

  • This is a largely sedentary role; however, some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.

Equipment/Access Needed:

  • Laptop, Phone, Access to EPIC, HART and HPCC division case management systems and SharePoint.
