AWC is hiring a full time Operations Manager for our Chicago Ford location. This is located near 122nd & Torrence. This will be a night shift position – 5:30am-5:30pm Monday- Friday and this position comes with an AMAZING benefits package and great pay too! Please apply fast for this position!

The general pay range for this position is $65,000-$80,000. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as qualifications, experience, internal equity, and market considerations.

Summary of Position:

The Operations Manager is responsible for organizing, motivating and scheduling staff and directing the day-to-day operations of all rail and/or yard and/or shuttle and plant functions and/or any combination of operations. This position is responsible for ensuring the quality receipt/movement/storage of vehicles through efficient productivity of the work crews. This position coordinates the activities of all associates under the direction of the Terminal Manager to ensure a well-coordinated, productive operation. Essential Functions, Duties & Tasks:

  • Responsible for the daily scheduling of personnel in order to complete receipt/movement/storage, and pre-delivery inspections in a productive, cost efficient and safe manner.
  • Direct the facility’s day-to-day activities.
  • Oversee vehicle receipt/movement/storage.
  • Oversee pre-delivery inspections.
  • Assign personnel to job locations.
  • Oversee yard operations.
  • Ensure personnel have the support, tools and supplies needed for production.
  • Conduct audits and make suggestions for corrective actions as needed.
  • Observe operations and assist where needed.
  • Ensure all AWC policies and procedures are followed.
  • Communicate daily with leads, other staff and office personnel to determine staffing, supply and operational needs; ensuring daily manpower plans are met and there are no service failures to the customer.
  • Participate in and ensure new associates receive the appropriate training.
  • Responsible for the progressive disciplinary process in the area of counseling, coaching, warnings and other corrective actions to ensure that a productive labor climate exists.
  • Oversees supervisor direct reports to ensure daily labor accounting is completed using the Workforce Time & Attendance system; acting as backup to supervisors in correcting and editing associate time if needed.
  • Accurately interprets and mentors supervisors in the appropriate practices and standards under the Collective Bargaining Agreement to avoid unnecessary grievances and disputes; asks for guidance from senior management if unsure.
  • Responsible for ensuring all end of shift reports and associated daily paperwork is completed on time, accurately and within company standards by the supervisors.
  • Documents performance issues and coordinates all corrective action with the Terminal Manager.
  • Responsible for all staff adherence to the safety programs in order to provide a safe, clean workplace for all personnel and within the regulations of local, state and OSHA standards.
  • Report accidents and injuries on appropriate forms and communicates the same to all appropriate customer/vendors and AWC personnel at the time of accident or injury.
  • Ensures that all AAR, Customer and AWC policies, processes and procedures are followed.
  • Responsible for holding direct reports and hourly associates accountable to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Responsible for coaching, mentoring of all direct and indirect reporting associates.
  • Responsible for any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals such as the AAR Manual
  • Ability to effectively supervise and delegate work to others
  • Ability to communicate deficiencies not in line with standard procedures in a diplomatic and appropriate manner
  • Work with a great deal of autonomy
  • Ability to keep confidential any documents and information seen, heard or generated in the performance of job duties
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, often in extreme weather conditions
  • Must work outdoors 60% of the shift
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be computer literate with Word, Excel, Outlook and Time & Attendance software and be able to learn proprietary AWC VIPs software.

Education, Experience & Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English
  • Must be computer literate
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience required, preferably in a logistics or manufacturing environment
  • Excellent leadership, management and organizational skills
  • Good driving record and must have and maintain a valid State Driver’s license.
  • Ability to drive manual and automatic transmission vehicles
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, often in extreme weather conditions
  • Must treat all individuals with respect and dignity
  • Must have a positive attitude and ability to work in team-orientated culture with strong communication skills
  • Must be customer-focused, results orientated, have solid decision-making abilities
  • Must be able to resolve conflict with the ability to build relationships
  • Must be adaptable and use effective coaching and mentoring skills

Preferred Requirements:

Associate’s degree or higher preferred
