Overview
The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner – Fellow, with the dyad supervision of the APP mentor and primary supervising physician and overarching leadership and guidance from the APP Director of Education and Professional Development, Vice President of Medical Education and APP Education Manager, performs as an integral member of the provider team, providing specialized patient care developed per fellowship program. Each program is designed to provide a comprehensive educational experience. Understanding the needs of the organization and supporting the mission, values, and management of WakeMed Physician Practices, the fellow will engage in collaborative care with a multidisciplinary healthcare team for a broad range of health services. At the completion of the fellowship, the fellow will be able to demonstrate excellence in medical management and procedures. The Orthopedic Fellow will participate in a 12-month program that will provide enhanced training and skills to enrich the care of the orthopedic patient. The fellow will be an integral member of the orthopedic team, providing direct high quality, evidence-based care within a diverse and complex health care environment under the dyad supervision of the orthopedic APP mentor and primary supervising physician. With the overarching leadership and guidance of the Vice President of Medical Education and APP Education Manager, the fellow will have a comprehensive educational experience that will foster the advanced clinical knowledge and skill set for direct clinical care of the orthopedic patient. The fellow will engage in collaborative care with a multidisciplinary healthcare team for a broad range of health services including trauma, sports, total joints, hand, foot and ankle, spine and pediatrics providing opportunities to perform various hands-on procedures such as joint and fracture reductions, suturing, joint injections / aspirations, hematoma blocks, and skeletal traction pins. The APP fellow will assist in the OR, perform pre-op and post-operative care, perform daily rounds, as well as rotate in the outpatient setting. At the completion of the fellowship, the fellow will be able to demonstrate excellence in management of orthopedic patients in the ambulatory, surgical, and inpatient settings. ***Fellowship program to start mid-October 2025
