Summary:
The patient navigator is a member of the care team who helps patients navigate the healthcare system and access the resources and services they need. Their primary role is to guide and support patients in understanding and accessing healthcare services, such as finding healthcare providers, scheduling appointments, understanding insurance coverage, and connecting to community resources, among other things. Resource navigators often assist patients in overcoming barriers to healthcare, such as language barriers, transportation issues, or lack of knowledge about available services. They provide information, education, and advocacy to empower patients to make informed decisions about their health.

The patient navigator role will include working with patients who have a substance use disorder.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, education, human services, sociology, counseling, behavioral science or a related field.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. experience: N/A
  4. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  5. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  6. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
