The week starts Wednesday night and ends the following Tuesday night. **The community you’ll be caring for:** · Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,368-bed AdventHealth Orlando · We offer great benefits with immediate Health Insurance coverage · Career growth and advancement potential · Serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America · AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country · We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year **The role you’ll contribute:** The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor may have direct reports as well as has primary responsibility for the pharmacy automation systems, technician scheduling, technician PDO/sick coverage and technician assignments. Other facility specific assignments may include patient billing and inventory management activities. If applicable for the facility, information that may be accessed include, but not limited to; pharmacy charge data, CDM databases, wholesaler, purchase files, automated dispensing systems, pharmaceutical contracts, data files, and personnel and compensation data. **The value you’ll bring to the team:** Pharmacy Operations Actively performs all pharmacy technician functions and maintains active proficiency in standard work parameters, hospital and pharmacy specific computer systems, and operational programs Maintains knowledge of operational functions in and actively provides coverage as needed: • Central Pharmacy • IV Room • Delivery • Controlled Substances • Quality Assurance & Sampling • Technician Inventory Check • Medication History • Clinical Services Support • Regulatory Compliance • Designated Trainer • Quality Assurance Auditing • Non-Sterile Compounding/Repackaging • Hazardous Medication Sterile Compounding • Purchasing and Contract Compliance Oversees appropriate utilization of medication automation, technology, and computer systems • Accurately reviews electronic reports • Maintains expertise in electronic report processes Accurately oversees the management of medication inventories and the preparation and delivery of patientspecific medication doses • Manages medication delivery activities • Prepares accurate medication products for delivery • Prevents improper drug, dose, dosage form selection, expiration dating, and barcode scanning issues when preparing products for final check • Performs oral and injectable product compounding if applicable Supervises technician and intern practice • Maintains competency to perform technician duties and roles as needed • Prioritizes workload, organizes workflow, and checks accuracy of pharmacy technician activities • Intervenes as needed to optimize the patient-centered pharmacy services provided in/by practice area Pharmacy Practice Supports patientcentered care services • Facilitates medication safety practices by identifying and reporting potential medication errors such as look-alike sound-alike medications • Prepares and delivers accurate, safe and timely medication • Places practice priority on the delivery of patientcentered care • Partners with pharmacist to improve quality and safety of patient care • Provides medication histories as needed Works as an active member of pharmacy programs and multidisciplinary team • Collaborates with other pharmacy staff • Collaborates with care providers and Pharmacist to optimize care and improve services Teamwork and Inter-Professional Collaboration Presents to assigned areas on time, ready to work and does not exhibit unscheduled absenteeism • Adheres to lunch and break schedule and monitors team adherence Assures continuity of service between shifts, among pharmacy staff assignments, and across pharmacy practice areas • Assures appropriate handoff between shifts and facilitates team meetings/huddles • Accepts any necessary work from preceding shift and does not leave excessive work for following shift Works effectively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure the best outcome for the patient • Demonstrates sensitivity to the perspective of the patient, caregiver, or health care colleague in all communications • Actively supports teammates (pharmacists, technicians, managers) • Uses effective negotiation skills to resolve conflicts Assists pharmacy managers and pharmacists with compliance and auditing Teaching, Training, Precepting, and Mentorship Mentors new-staff and assists with training Supports quality training opportunities and relationships for teaching and precepting • Supports all pharmacist student, pharmacy technician student and resident learning experiences, if applicable • Supports current and established staff training experiences and competencies • Determines and validates competency Demonstrates desire and aptitude for teaching and competency of • The teaching roles: Instructing, Modeling, and Coaching • Teaching clinical problem solving • Evaluating experiential performance • Providing criteria-based feedback • Teaching independent evidence-based practice • Differentiating between students and resident learning experiences, if applicable Precepts and mentors (number defined annually): • Pharmacy technician student rotations Quality Improvement, Regulatory Compliance, and Accreditation Supports and participates in medicationuse process improvements led by colleagues and peers Supports regulatory compliance initiatives and supports institutional accreditation processes Identifies practice-related issues which require evaluation • Identifies the need for quality improvement initiatives or healthcare provider education as needed to advance practice • Identifies short- and long-term obstacles to patient care and medication safety, regulatory compliance, or stewardship of resources Professional Activities and Practice Advancements Maintains a commitment to pharmacy practice via participation in pharmacy technician professional activities and practice advancement accomplishments. Supports improvements in and contributions to pharmacy practice Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching (some examples): • Student Evaluations • Teaching Awards Leadership and Organizational Involvement • Participates in departmental meetings • Participates in departmental educational activities • Supports practice advancement initiatives, clinical research projects, and stewardship initiatives led by colleagues and peers, if applicable • Participates in shared governance committee(s), if applicable • Maintains professional image • Performs other duties as assigned Schedule and Human Resources Management Maintains competent, skilled, and cooperative staff by coordinating training for new employees, coaching and mentoring of all employees, and routine professional development for all staff Leads recruitment, interview, and hiring processes for staff in assigned areas Develops a harmonious and satisfied staff by facilitating engagement initiatives and taking actions that appropriately maintain positive employee engagement Manages and monitors staff performance in assigned pharmacy areas to ensure accuracy and quality of services, completion of all tasks, and mitigation and correction of deficiencies Provides department leadership with feedback regarding job performance including employee discipline if needed and completes performance appraisals for assigned employees Develops standards of performance to maximize staff roles in accordance with licensure Manages schedules and staff requests for PDO and adjusts coverage for sick calls or staff shortages such that department workloads are covered and each area is provided coverage Monitors and reports usage of staff overtime, time and attendance deviations, and staff sick calls Qualifications **The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:** **EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:** High School Grad or Equiv and 3 years experience Three years of Contemporary hospital pharmacy experience PREFERRED: •Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in a physical science, business or healthcare •One year of supervisory/leadership experience **LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:** • Certified Pharmacy Tech • Registered Pharmacy Technician **LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:** •Applicable State Pharmacy Technician Registration (RPT) OR Current, valid State Pharmacist Intern license if applicable to state •Current certification from Nationally recognized Board/Association PREFERRED: •Sterile Compounding Certification, if applicable per state legislation SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES •Supervises pharmacy technicians, pharmacy technician interns, and pharmacy interns This facility is an equal opportunity employer and complies with federal, state and local anti-discrimination laws, regulations and ordinances.
