Kenworth Truck Company is the manufacturer of The World’s Best® heavy and medium duty trucks. As an industry leader in providing fuel-saving technology solutions that help increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, Kenworth is dedicated to optimizing vehicle aerodynamics and internal combustion engine and aftertreatment systems. Kenworth is pushing the technology envelope with the introduction of battery electric vehicles, exploration of fuel cell electric vehicles, and autonomous driving systems.

Position Summary

This Engine department is looking for a collaborative and driven pilot truck engineer that will be responsible for ensuring that pilot builds on all major new engine development programs are successful and the trucks are delivered on time. This position will support and lead portions of multiple concurrent engine programs.

You will have the opportunity to make a great contribution to the direction and completion of our engine programs. You will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally between our division design engineers and our plant engineering and manufacturing teams.

Job Duties / Responsibilities 

  • Review pilot truck sales orders against the specification build sheet and coordinate required changes with Marketing, PMO, PTC and Engineering.
  • Create the build books, coordinate the content with Engineering and lead the build book reviews prior to each build event.
  • Track all Engineering supplied components for each build and coordinate storage at the plants.
  • Review pilot truck frame layouts for accuracy and coordinate required changes with Engineering.
  • Track and report REI completion for each pilot and follow up with Engineering on required changes.
  • Support the Engineering teams at the Build Readiness Review meetings.
  • Work with Materials on part shortages and coordinate expedited deliveries, as necessary.
  • Coordinate documentation and resolution of build issues, EWI defects and submission of PLRs.
  • Coordinate and lead Pilot build end of day engineering meetings as needed.
  • Manage Pilot engineering defects issue resolution by Coordinating reworks, repairs, modifications, and final inspection of pilot trucks to ensure they are ready for delivery.
  • Lead FRACAS Review Boards
  • Demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks with multiple ongoing programs
  • Travel up to 25% – Mostly to Kenworth Division in Kirkland, WA
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills To Be Successful:

  • 3-5 years of experience required
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint and presentation skills is required.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Project, and related computer software required.
  • Ability to learn on the fly and adapt to change.
  • Demonstrated team player with a high level of initiative, follow-through, and flexibility.
  • Must be detail-oriented and capable of multi-tasking workload.
  • Strong Technical Background
  • Proficiency with PACCAR systems, processes, procedures, and validation practices & principles.
  • Use established engineering processes and techniques and be resourceful in solving complex technical problems.
  • Requires independent judgment and effective project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Additional Job Board Information 

At PACCAR, we value talent and promote growth and development. We carefully consider numerous compensation factors including your education, training, or experience. The salary range for the Pilot Truck Engineer is $84,000-$131,700 annually. This position is also eligible for a holiday gift. Additionally, this role is eligible for the full range of benefit options listed above.
