The Role:

Supervises maintenance staff of NW Natural’s underground storage facilities. Responsible for planning and execution of all maintenance activities including assisting operations team as needed to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient storage operations.

Day to Day:
  • Supervises the maintenance team, ensuring delivery of departmental goals, through appropriate delegation and providing feedback and motivation to team members. This includes providing first line-management support, allocation of resources to ensure project delivery and short-term planning of deliverables.
  • Supervises maintenance personnel to maintain a schedule and meet the adequate staffing needs of Gas Storage 2 Operators, Electricians, and Millwrights.
  • Provides backup support to the Plant Manager and Operations Supervisor as needed, including supervising, coordinating and leading plant personnel with tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of plant facilities.
  • Leads maintenance program execution, documentation and process improvement, directs preventive maintenance programs and maintains availability to supervise repairs at any time.
  • Coordinates and directs projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
  • Manages and monitors both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, as well as coordinating outage activities, including outage planning.
  • Collaborates with the operations supervisor to identify necessary maintenance activities to maintain and enhance plant operability.
  • Interfaces with outside vendors and contractors for equipment repairs and part purchases and collect and store technical data of equipment specifications for maintenance personnel.
  • Maintains a positive public image of the Company and the underground storage plant through information, programs, facility tours and community involvement. Responds to a variety of inquiries/concerns initiated by customers, Company personnel, or the general public; resolves problems by coordinating necessary resources.
  • Reads, interprets, and explains information pertaining to plant operations and maintenance.
  • Promotes, implements and monitors safe work practices and conducts safety meetings for appropriate staff.
  • Responds to and evaluates emergency situations, analyzes required action and directs appropriate response; maintains proper emergency response procedure.
  • Develops, trains and mentors team members with documentation and ongoing performance feedback, recognizes accomplishments and provides cross-training opportunities for plant operators.
  • Develop staffing plans; participates in employee selection process of Chief Operators, Electricians, and Millwrights and assists in the selection process of other plant personnel to include plant operators and plant admins.
  • Assists in budget preparation, analyzes costs/benefits; continuously evaluates cost reduction and revenue enhancement opportunities.
  • Translates corporate vision and strategy into team goals and priorities.
  • Manages, facilitates and evaluates team development, work processes and technical expertise.
  • Supports Company’s commitment to a culture of safe work practices.
  • Assists as a subject matter expert for external audit preparation, data gathering in order to demonstrate compliance.
  • Adheres to and promotes the philosophies and directives of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Demonstrates appropriate leadership and decision-making behaviors; maintains technical job knowledge and personal skill development.
  • Committed to coaching and developing employees. Creates and maintains a positive team environment at facility.
Come on your first day with:
  • 5-7 years of underground gas storage plant maintenance experience preferred, or equivalent combination of relevant experience.
  • Leadership experience (training, lead role, etc.) required. Prior Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Compressor station knowledge preferred.
  • Knowledge/experience/training in PC/computer applications, including spreadsheets, database and PLC applications.
  • Excellent communication and public interface skills.
  • Written skills, including technical documentation and report writing abilities.
  • Personal availability to respond immediately to emergency situations and staffing requirements in the Mist, OR area.
  • Skill and commitment to coach and develop employees.
  • Ability and commitment to continue to develop personal skills and technical knowledge.
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate projects; skill in organizing and managing time effectively to meet deadlines and balance priorities.
  • Ability to physically access construction and other work site locations as required.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability in delegating and coordinating employee activities consistent with Company strategy to balance customer satisfaction with shareholder value.
  • Possess/maintain a valid Oregon/Washington driver’s license including any required certifications and/or endorsements, and a satisfactory driving record. Must obtain a valid Oregon/Washington driver’s license within 90 days if current valid license is from another state.

Base salary range: $107,500.00-$153,200.00per year, depending on qualifications

Annual Target Incentive: Supervisor, 12.0% target
Targets are calculated using eligible earnings during plan year participation. Payout, if earned, is based on company and individual performance for each plan year and may range from 0% – 200% of target. Targets are subject to change in subsequent plan years. Must be employed by September 30 in order to receive any prorated payout.
