Post Award Accountant

Be a part of our team that supports and coordinates the accounting for sponsored grants and contracts awarded to renowned university researchers in a wide variety of disciplines. You will have the opportunity to instruct and train university personnel, oversee and assist in multiple university financial systems, and work with dedicated professionals.

What you’ll do in this position:

  • Serve as a central accounting contact for faculty and departmental support related to research project management, budget and expense analysis, and reporting

  • Oversee expenditures charged to sponsored projects, and provide policy and procedure interpretation on Federal, State, University and other agency policies and regulations as they apply to sponsored research
  • Coordinate with sponsors, faculty, and university departments for invoicing, payment, and reporting of sponsored project expenses according to grant/contract requirements
  • Advise and mentor student employees in their responsibilities and ensure that they have work experiences that enhance their educational opportunities
  • Work with the sponsored award office to set up, manage, and close out sponsored project subawards
  • Coordinate final expenditures, reports, and financial obligations for timely closeout of sponsored projects
  • Meet with controllers, financial assistants, and faculty to discuss accounting matters and provide training

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or another financial related field and 3 or more years’ professional experience, or the equivalent combination of both education and experience

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in accounting or business
  • 3+ years financial research administration experience
  • Experience in a regulatory environment
  • Kuali Research and Workday experience

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:

  • High level of integrity and trust
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Excel experience. Proficiency in additional MS Office applications including Word and Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with aptitude for significant attention to detail
  • Ability to understand and analyze financial reports and process documents with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to understand and interpret federal regulations
  • Ability to adapt, learn and effectively use a variety of online systems
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
