The Department of Environmental Health Sciences within the Mailman School of Public Health has an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist ideally with a high degree of competency in Bayesian statistical modelling, computer vision, and coding in R and/or Python, with associated relevant graduate and training. The post-doctoral researcher will focus on climate change and health problems relevant to the United States, countries in the tropics, and worldwide. All research activities will be conducted in accordance with the policies and standard practices of Columbia University.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing data for analysis (25%).
- Building statistical models (25%).
- Writing up results (25%).
- Training for further career development (20%).
- Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested. (5%).
Minimum Qualifications:
A doctoral degree in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ideally a PhD in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, computer science or related discipline. experience working with large national and multi-national datasets, building bespoke Bayesian epidemiological models in R or Python, using packages such as R-INLA, Nimble, NumPyro, Stan, and with a relevant peer-reviewed publication record. Useful to also have experience using computer vision models and experience downloading and processing large amounts of image data, experience using GitHub and processing on high performance computer clusters.
