PROGRAM DIRECTOR -North Queens Community High School

SCO Family of Services is seeking a Program Director for North Queens Community High School (NQCHS) a transfer high school serving over-age, under-credited youth ages 16-21. Operated through a partnership between SCO Family of Services and the NYC Department of Education (DOE), NQCHS provides students who have a history of excessive truancy or dropping out of high school the opportunity to re-engage in school and graduate with a high school diploma prepared for careers and college. Each student is paired with an Advocate Counselor as the primary person who provides social-emotional support and helps students define their commitment and goals for graduation and develop a post-secondary plan. Our highly personalized approach, small classroom size and student-centered instruction create an individualized learning environment for each student.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership for all aspects of the SCO component of the school.
  • As a member of the school leadership team, collaborate with DOE to provide comprehensive support services to students and their families.
  • Work as a collaborative team with faculty, including facilitating and participating in staff meetings, staff development; collaborating on all projects including the Comprehensive Education Plan, Learning to Work Plan and other reports as needed.
  • Insure fidelity to best practices in youth development, counseling, advisory, group work, attendance outreach, graduation and post-secondary planning, family engagement, counseling and intervention strategies and AC- teacher collaboration.
  • Supervise Assistant Director, Learning-to-Work Coordinator, Attendance Coordinator, Office Manager and small caseload of Advocate Counselors (AC) as needed, through regular individual supervision, coaching, and insuring compliance with documentation and other requirements.
  • In collaboration with leadership team, create, implement and track effective strategies to improve and sustain attendance.
  • In collaboration with the Principal, and with the support of the LTW coordinator track LTW outcomes including internship development, matching, assessment, opportunities for career related exposure and skills development, data tracking and submission, and full utilization of allotted funds.
  • In collaboration with the Principal, ensure that all students have post-secondary plans including coordination of activities to provide exposure to multiple college and career pathways.
  • In collaboration with the Principal, coordinate development and implementation of student enrichment activities.
  • In collaboration with the Principal, coordinate family engagement events and strategies.
  • Develop and maintain external partnerships.
  • In collaboration with the Principal, conduct student outreach, admissions and orientation, track admissions data.
  • Utilize data to inform interventions and track outcomes; provide reports for DOE partners, SCO and funders.
  • In collaboration with the Principal, create, implement and track adherence to policies and procedures aligned with contract requirements and best practice.
  • Manage budget aligned with program outcomes.
  • Manage human resources processes including hiring, training and progressive discipline of staff.
  • Assist with student referrals to outside resources, including employment, emergency shelter, day care, health services, and additional social services.
  • Support student growth by providing continuous feedback and resources to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Develop proficiency with all relevant data systems used in the school community and SCO.
  • Liaise with DOE LTW Program Manager.
  • Participate in monthly SCO Transfer School Directors’ meetings, monthly DOE-LTW meetings, and advocacy related coalitions as needed.
  • Member of SCO Administrative Council; required to attend quarterly meetings
  • Liaise with SCO support departments including human resources, training, finance, business operations, quality improvement.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with SCO programs to support cross program referral and collaboration.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in social work strongly preferred. Related clinical master’s degree considered.
  • Experience in DOE setting preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience supervision and demonstrated skill in working with youth and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning, facilitation, and coordination of group work.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Self-initiated, motivated and well-organized.
  • Possess a social justice perspective and ability to collaborate with culturally and socioeconomically diverse groups.
  • Commitment to work from a strengths-based and youth development perspective.
  • Facility with data systems and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings as needed by the school community.

Compensation

  • $77,000 Salary
