A Brief Summary of This Position
This position is responsible for Quality Assurance coordination and execution of both internal and external inspections, internal and external audits, and creation, revision and enforcement of procedures and specifications. In addition, this position works with suppliers, customers, 3rd party auditors and personnel from various departments and locations within Valmont to identify and develop quality assurance action plans and procedures. The Quality Supervisor works closely with stakeholders and serves as the Quality Management Representative in the absence of the Quality Manager.
This position is responsible for the supervision of all quality inspectors of all shifts. The quality department ensures that product meets the expectations of customer standards, including all national or international regulating bodies, and Valmont’s own internal quality standards.
In addition, this position aids in identifying opportunities for improvement regarding processes. While in the position, the Quality Supervisor will work to identify and develop quality improvement policies, procedures, and action plans.

Job Knowledge/Capability
This person must have a knowledge level sufficient to develop and write inspection procedures in accordance with applicable codes and customer specifications. Having the ability to read and interpret production prints, order packets, quality inspection instructions and specifications are necessary for this position.
This person must be capable of using measuring equipment (i.e., tape measures, calipers, micrometer, etc.,), testing equipment (sieve analysis, slump tests, compressions tests, air tests, etc.), calculator, personal computer and other technical units as necessary to perform the job.
Interpersonal Skills
The incumbent must possess the ability to communicate effectively and convincingly. Communication comes in the form of conversations, memorandums, and reports. Having the ability to interact with all levels within the hierarchy of Valmont, our customers, and intermediaries is paramount. Furthermore, the incumbent works closely with production personnel, administrative personnel, quality assurance personnel, suppliers, customers, and customer liaisons discussing and communicating quality standards and procedures.
Equipment Operated
Tape measures, basic measuring devices, data gathering devices, personal computers, sieve analysis, air tests, compression machine and other quality control measurement devices. Moderate PC knowledge, especially the Microsoft Suite or programs within said package is required.
Decision Making
The incumbent must be capable of distinguishing conforming and non-conforming quality. It is imperative that the person is capable of reading, comprehending and properly interpreting specifications from both internal and external sources. Judgements will be made on a regular basis and must be done consistently and accurately.
The incumbent will be required to make decisions regarding the quality of products and processes on a regular basis. It is essential for this person to make uncompromising decisions consistent with the applicable customer, industry, and company specifications.
Working Environment and Physical Efforts
Work is performed in a factory setting, with most of the time being spent moving around different areas of manufacturing and shipping areas. The incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. This position will be exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, fire, smoke, unstable debris and confined spaces. Environment is fast-paced and demanding most of the time. This position may require long days to support the Quality initiative for a multi-shift operation.
The employee is frequently required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrist rests. The incumbent may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds in working with large files, binders, computer equipment and shop equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
