DEPARTMENT: Actuarial
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Assist with reinsurance catastrophe modeling activities for the Broker Assumed business portfolio
REPORTS TO: Reinsurance Modeling Manager
LOCATION: Schaumburg, Illinois (Hybrid)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review submission documents and log pertinent detail regarding data and treaties. Follow up with underwriters/brokers to obtain any missing information or clarification as necessary
- Assess and communicate expert opinion on quality of cedant modeling information; provide guidance on alternative/additional modeling requirements to ensure complete and accurate loss estimates
- Maintain organization and workflow of currency conversions, as well as modeling considerations for domestic and international property exposures
- Ensure consistency between internal portfolio management and catastrophe modeling databases
- Provide data for pricing and other actuarial analyses
- Perform modeling activities required to complete treaty analyses in Verisk and RMS models for use in periodic corporate roll-ups, including domestic and international exposures
- Maintain catastrophe models, including identifying opportunities and potential solutions along with change impact and best practices
- Organize and maintain efficient data file structure to support the needs of the Actuarial, Cat Modeling, Broker Assumed Underwriting, and IT departments
RELATIONSHIPS: Build and maintain effective working relationships within AmericanAg™ and among business partners
REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Two or more years modeling experience with RMS RiskLink/RiskModeler and Verisk Touchstone
- Experience in reviewing and interpreting broker reinsurance submission documentation
- Understanding of model input, methodologies, and assumptions
- Proficient in SQL and Excel
- Knowledge of Python
- Knowledge of insurance and insurance coverages
- Good communication and relationship-building skills
- Organizational skills and the ability to work independently
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to work in our Schaumburg, Illinois, headquarters at least three days each week and as needed. Occasional travel may be required
The expected starting salary range for this position is between $65,000 and $95,000 annually. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position is also eligible for an annual productivity bonus.
