Job Description Summary:

The Research Project Manager oversees the full grant lifecycle—including pre-award, post-award, and compliance—while coordinating with faculty, staff, sponsors, and regulatory bodies to ensure successful project execution and adherence to federal and institutional guidelines.

Job Description:

Grant and Project Lifecycle Management

  • Manage all phases of the grant lifecycle, including proposal development, submission, award setup, budget oversight, and closeout.
  • Collaborate with faculty and research teams to prepare and submit grant applications, ensuring compliance with sponsor guidelines and institutional policies.
  • Monitor project timelines, deliverables, and milestones to ensure alignment with grant objectives and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Grants and Research (OGR) to manage financial and administrative aspects of the grant.
  • Prepare and submit required progress, financial, and final reports to funding agencies.

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations governing research and grant management.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for audits, IRB submissions, and sponsor reviews.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for compliance-related inquiries and documentation.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the liaison between KUMC, external partners, and community stakeholders involved in the Sunflower-MOMS program.
  • Develop and distribute communication materials such as newsletters, reports, and outreach content.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with project teams, advisory boards, and external collaborators.
  • Support the development and implementation of continuing education and training initiatives related to the research.

Administrative and Operational Support

  • Oversee procurement, travel, and supply management in accordance with grant budgets.
  • Maintain project records in institutional systems such as Workday and other research administration platforms.
  • Provide administrative support to the Principal Investigator(s), Co-Investigators, and research staff.
  • Develop and maintain organized systems for meeting agendas, minutes, and project documentation.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related, scientific, or business field. experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

Work Experience: Two (2) years of experience in research administration, grant management, or healthcare project coordination.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree in a health-related, scientific, or business field.

Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver’s license

Work Experience:

  • 2 years of experience with NIH, HRSA, or other federal grant mechanisms.
  • 2 years of experience with IRB processes and clinical research protocols.
  • 1 year of experience with federal grant proposal development (e.g., NIH, HRSA).
  • 1 year of experience with clinical research protocol implementation.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and research administration systems.
  • Organizational, communication, time management and problem-solving skills.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
