Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Simulation Learning Center (SLC) Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the Labs. This position will schedule, coordinate, and oversee all activities that occur in this state-of-the art facility. The manager will ensure adherence to simulation program policies, safety measures, and standards related to accreditation. This is an administrative position with eligibility for a clinical faculty rank based on background and experience. This is a 12-month, full-time position. Evening or weekend shifts may be required.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Oversees all aspects of the day-to-day simulation operations, including scheduling of courses, students, and standardized patients, maintenance of simulation equipment and facilities, and coordination of simulation sessions.
  • Manages the scheduling and utilization of simulation rooms, equipment, and resources to optimize their availability for educational activities.
  • Ensures that the necessary operational resources, such as space, equipment, and simulators, are in place to provide an optimal simulated educational experience for learners and faculty.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant safety, regulatory, and accreditation standards, including maintaining documentation and records, and instructional and training materials.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborations with entities internal or external to the university.
  • Supervises all simulation staff (operations specialist, technologists, and student workers) including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and professional development.
  • Works collaboratively with program coordinators within the college who plan, implement, and evaluate student learning experiences.
  • Creates, maintains, and provides reports on activities to measure operational outcomes.
  • Remains current with relevant emerging technology in simulation by participating in related professional organizations.
  • Provides recommendations for equipment and supply purchases anticipating future changes in technology and expanding needs of the SLC.
  • Oversees the set up and take down of simulation laboratory equipment allowing for rapid turnover of simulation laboratories.
  • Maintains a Simulation Learning Center policy and procedure manual.
  • Performs other duties or responsibilities determined to be appropriate for this position.
Minimum education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in a health profession.
  • Knowledge and experience with healthcare simulation.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, with an emphasis on interprofessional education and practice.
  • Experience with managing people.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • BSN prepared nurse with an active North Carolina RN license and a minimum of three years of clinical nursing management experience.
  • Familiarity with Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) protocols.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator.
  • Experience with scheduling software.
  • Proficient communication skills.
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism.
  • Skilled in time management and setting priorities while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to function with a high level of accuracy, even under pressure.
Required Certifications or Licensures
  • Must have an active North Carolina RN license and a minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience.
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The School of Nursing (SON) within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) has an outstanding legacy of serving the people of southeastern North Carolina through education, scholarship, and service. The SON is dedicated to excellence in the development of healthcare professionals through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement, and community outreach and impact. The SON is a National League of Nursing Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, specifically in the area of promoting the pedagogical expertise of faculty. The SON is located in McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, student success areas and learning commons, and the Simulation Learning Center. The Simulation Learning Center uses high, medium, and low-fidelity human patient simulators as teaching and learning tools for nursing education. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes the cognitive, affective, physical, and social development of the student as well as the incorporation of inter-professional collaborative experiences for students across the degree programs in the College.

Over 2,400 students are enrolled in programs within the SON. The SON has over 80 full-time faculty and employs over 60 part-time faculty per semester.
College/School Information
The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and Application. In the formative stage of development, the CHHS is currently home to three professional schools: School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Social Work.
