Job Description

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a contribution motivated Chemical Engineer for Leaf River Cellulose mill in New Augusta, MS (~25min from Hattiesburg, MS). This Co-Op/Internship opportunity will report to the Optimization Team. The primary focus will be to meet all role deliverables provided by assigned mentor and to develop the technical expertise to become a full-time process engineer.

Our Facility

Leaf River Cellulose Mill is a world-class wood pulp mill in the Georgia-Pacific’s Cellulose business. Leaf River produces specialty and market fluff pulp that is delivered worldwide to customers for a variety of high end uses and converting technologies. Our products are used in applications ranging from paper products to diapers and hygiene products, to specialty applications including textiles, pharmaceuticals, food, paints, and plastic molding components.

Role Expectations

  • Ability to monitor and analyze process data.
  • Identify and participate in deployment of process improvement opportunities.
  • Presentation of process findings and recommendations.
  • Be self-directed and engaged in active learning of facility specific processes.
  • Build understanding of terminologies used in pulp and paper industry.
  • Collaborate with production teams to identify areas for improvement.
  • Participate in field troubleshooting and meeting discussions.
  • Document solutions and/or repairs using work process tools.
  • Become equipped with deep understanding of our company philosophy.


Basic Qualifications

  • This co-op position is available to college students enrolled in chemical engineering.
  • Must be able work approximately 40 hours per week.
  • At least 2 full semesters of school remaining, more is preferable.
  • Ability to digest, retain, and communicate technical concepts concisely and effectively.
  • experience identifying opportunities and implementing solutions.

  • Knowledge in pulp and paper industry.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, planning, coordinating, and executing technical trials.
