The Service Technician IV – Controls serves as a lead and front-line resource to other service technicians by providing technical support, training, and guidance. This role is responsible for performing diagnostics, maintenance, and repair services on building automation and control systems. Ensures system functionality, efficiency, and integration in commercial and industrial environments while supporting safety, compliance, and operational standards.
Essential Duties
- Manages advanced controls installation, programming, troubleshooting, and repair tasks.
- Diagnoses system performance through observation, testing, and setup as required by trade/position. Performs planned maintenance and inspections as indicated in the service agreement. Proficiently operates hand tools, power tools, gauges, and measuring equipment.
- Executes service contracts, quoted projects, and demand service calls as instructed. Cultivates lasting relationships with clients, ensures customer satisfaction by explaining the work done, and maintains clear communication with all project stakeholders.
- Serves as a lead and front-line resource to service technicians through technical support. Coordinates the work of subcontractors, and trains and provides guidance to technicians.
- Participates in technician on-call standby rotation as dictated by business unit policies and procedures.
- Coordinates multi-tech service calls.
- Completes documentation of invoicing, commissioning and check out data based on hours worked and materials or equipment used to complete the service.
- Safely drives a motor vehicle and trailer, follows requirements of company vehicle driving policy and adheres to all company safety requirements.
- Maintains equipment, tools, and inventory stock on service vehicle.
- Purchases materials and issues purchase order numbers to suppliers. Uses technology/software to create and modify programming such as graphics, data bases, sequences, etc.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED is a minimum requirement.
A two-year technical degree in a relevant field is highly preferred. - Tridium AX/N4, Distech, Siemens, and Siemens Desigo Certification.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a Service Technician.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with various controls platforms, including Siemens, Distech, JCI, Inet, and others.
- Access controls and lighting controls installations and programming skills.
- Advanced controls programming and troubleshooting skills.
- Must have ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and device data sheets.
- Must have ability to use testing and metering devices.
- Familiar with Windows operating systems and software.
- Professional demeanor, solid interpersonal skills with good written and oral communication capability.
- Demonstrates strong business ethics at all times.
