This role offers a hybrid work schedule; offering the flexibility to work remotely two days a week, while providing the opportunity for in-person collaboration at our Buffalo, NY Tech Hub.
Overview:
Responsible for management and oversight of single (or multiple) data analytics and reporting technology team(s). Provides strategic and day-to-day direction for subject matter experts and other technical staff by leveraging expertise and experience. Capable of defining a strategic direction around data analytics and reporting program and motivating the team to achieve expected outcomes. Expected to support the goals of the department, growth, and development of individual staff members. Position is responsible for interfacing with applicable Business Lines and other technology teams to collaborate, manage expectations and deliver new functionality. Provides leadership around achieving team and organizational objectives, prioritization of work and fostering creative thought among the team.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide strategy and direction to team(s) to facilitate the build-out and maintenance of a strong metrics and reporting program and underlying technology stack
Provide technical direction and subject matter expertise around data technologies and analytics capabilities
Assist team members in translating requirements or needs into informative and well-designed data views or visualizations
Monitor the technology direction of the industry and vendor applications.
Research and initiate change to the status quo, driving teams towards meaningful outcomes.
Responsible for vendor and product analysis and recommendations.
Manage and participate in partnerships with business lines and other Tech teams in the analysis of new requirements/business needs and recommend innovations that anticipate future impact of changing technology and business goals.
Oversee development, implementation and continual maintenance of aligned technology platforms or solutions
Build rapport within the organization. Communicate and develop a professional level of communication and cooperation.
Control the activities of the teams, assign personnel to various projects and direct their activities.
Ensure timely completion of work aligned to roadmaps and projects. Responsible for short-term staffing planning.
Implement technology consistent with Division standards and long-range plans. Ensure adherence to all Department and Technology standards and procedures, including all documentation requirements.
May translate requirements to assist staff in preparing detailed specifications for system enhancements. Manage recommended designs based on business and technology requirements. Identify issues and concerns.
Monitor and contribute to project plans; may coordinate major project activities. Remain current on activities outside the team that may impact the team environment.
Develop and manage cost center budget.
Recommend and initiate new policies and procedures that improve the performance and effectiveness of the Department.
Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilities:
Oversees a team where the majority of employees are Infrastructure Analysts, Business System Analysts, Scrum Masters, Technology Supervisors, and/or other similar roles in Technology.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience
Minimum 4 years’ work experience in/with the specific technology function.
Minimum 1 year’s managerial experience
Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Data & Analytics principles
Capable of working on multiple projects of a complex nature
Proficiency with project management, word processing and spreadsheet applications
Excellent problem-solving skills to assist in issue resolution

Education and Experience Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree
A combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 4 years’ technology or systems experience and 3 years’ leadership experience
Extensive application and product knowledge/experience with skills, application(s) and functions of Data/Data Analytics and Reporting discipline
Experience with Microsoft PowerBI or other visualization Tools
Experience with Databases and other data technologies
Exposure and Experience to building and staffing a brand-new team and capability
Subject Matter Expert understanding of Database and Data visualization technologies with an advanced knowledge of interfacing/integrated applications
Proven mentoring and leadership capabilities
Self-motivated and able to motivate others

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $97,869.52 – $163,115.87 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
