Therapy Education Resource Specialist (PT), Acute Care – TMC

Job Summary

Responsible for interprofessional collaboration in the coordination and provision of direct staff education. Involved in all aspects of development and implementation of courses for internal/external customers. Typically reports to the Director of Clinical Education.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from an accredited university-based program (Master’s preferred).

Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission. Current Certification in Basic Life Support.

A physical therapist practicing direct access:

Education: Doctoral degree along with a residency or fellowship program, OR Licensed therapist with 30 hours of continuing competence activities in differential diagnosis

Licenses/Certifications: Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Five (5) years clinical experience
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Viewed as an “expert and leader” within chosen discipline.
  • Knowledge of process improvement roles for facility leaders.
  • Values high standards in utilization of electronic medical records.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Collaborates with other disciplines to develop and coordinate facility level Physical Therapy (PT) education plans.
  • Acts as an educational resource at the service level and for core hospital activities. Assesses plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates educational needs that are appropriate to the target population including high risk low frequency activities.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements educational courses for internal/external customers that promote the facility as a center of excellence.
  • Works independently to develop curriculum for identified learning needs. Coordinates learning plans at the facility level.
  • Promotes team approach to healthcare delivery. Partners with other departments in training initiatives. Facilitates effective patient education at the service level. Evaluates effectiveness of patient education.
  • Acts as a clinical resource for staff. Communicates effectively with all levels of the healthcare team.
  • Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
